I think that's the most common way people play it. Perhaps in later releases the mobs will be more significant. Or perhaps people will be able to try blow up each others' castle.

If I fill a bucket and place a water block it just disappears a couple of seconds later.

I vote for turn off monsters since I can't even see the damn explodey ones and I just end up standing in a crater (or worse, dropping through the roof of someone else's mine pit! )

plus: still having really hard time getting water to work. And I know I'm not the only one.

I created a trough/bath (3 long, 1 wide, 1 deep) all out of cobblestone. (As suggested on the wiki). But as soon as I put water into it, it just disappears after a few seconds.... I've videos of other people doing this and it's fine, so wondering if it is something to do with the server?

Has everyone created a water source or a bath or swimming pool, or waterfall, etc .... RECENTLY (last 24-36 hours IRL time)

In Infdev and Alpha, Water springs can be duplicated using any basin of at least three empty spaces, as long as the bottom is not Water, Glass, or Ice. Placing a Water spring at two sides of an empty space will create a water spring in the empty space. Also, removing the water from the middle of the basin will allow adjacent water springs to generate a new spring.

Yeah seems to be down for me too

I've chucked up a server of my own (hosted in NZ) if people want to have a play around in a different map (it's also got a couple of server mods so that buckets work, furnaces aren't as buggy, and there's a few extra commands available like /playerlist for everyone, not just admins)
