Anyway, it sounds like they've constructed a narrative that sufficiently appeases. Certainly Collins has gotten away with more damning connections.

I wonder why the government isn't doing anything about mental health

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/...ectid=12291423

Quote:
Winston Peters lashes out at ex-NZ First party officials for request to give evidence

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters has accused his former party president Lester Gray of having "mental health problems" - a claim strongly denied by Gray, who has previously raised questions about the party's finances.

The accusation emerged after National's electoral law spokesman Nick Smith told Parliament that Labour MPs on the justice select committee refused a request for Gray and former treasurer Colin Forster to appear before it in a private session during their inquiry into the 2017 election.

Peters then suggested outside the House that Gray had mental health issues and it would not have been appropriate for him to give evidence to a select committee.

Climate change is this generation’s nuclear free moment. We are committed to a zero carbon emissions future.

Also, we have to build $6billion of new roads. Now. There is nothing more important, nothing more deserving, than roads.

It's an interesting one, it's a little easier to acheive a zero carbon emissions from Government than not.

A little give now to be re elected could mean more in the future. Plus a chunk of that roading I thought related a lot to do with Freight and making it easier for trucks

Work to begin on business case for new RNZ, TVNZ public broadcaster

What a bunch of cunts. NZ no longer has a culture, we exist to do business.

I'm just angry about losing something important to me. I know it's no where near as devastating or absurd as cutting a rape crisis services. I know I'm being selfish. But I don't think completely selfish. I think we would lose something people wouldn't realise they were losing, but would still lament the loss.

RNZ in general, but Concert especially has long been a different class of service. It's a not a fucking radio station. Radio stations sell shit, focus on growing their audience, that kind of noise.

You get the same in most western cities I've found. When travelling I would always be able to find the local classical station, always a very similar service. Calm, serious people presenting fine music. No ads, no shillery, no agenda. The difference is those services were donation driven and had to hammer listeners throughout the year with donation drives. New Zealand was just a better class of place. Past tense.

I'm with Lightspeed on this one, this is an awful decision and I think the bigger picture is that NZ will be worse-served by media companies in almost every respect. If the government is getting into taxpayer-funded popular media, what incentive could a private enterprise possibly have for participating in the NZ market? There's no way any media organisation can compete with a provider in the same marketplace that doesn't have to show a profit.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern frustrated by RNZ Concert proposal timing

Now I'm wondering if RNZ isn't playing hardball with the government. Maybe it's forcing the government's hand, compel it to put protections around Concert before any potential RNZ/TVNZ merger?

And/or free up some funding for other services at RNZ.

Its a youth network. Why on earth are they putting this via FM. SHould it not just all be digital.
I would be interested in knowing how many "youths" listen to FM (actual radio, not a FM station via an app).
I bet its low.

I wonder how Grinding Gear Games' $100m+ sale to Tencent plays into all that. Tencent will be eager to generate revenue.

They did very well those guys.

The Government is seeking public feedback on which new NCEA level one subjects should be taught and which should be merged or scrapped altogether.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has proposed a number of changes to the year 11 curriculum, after the Government gave the green-light to a “comprehensive review” of NCEA level one.

The MoE has suggested scrapping the teaching of Latin, Classical Studies and Art History but adding a Māori Performing Arts option for students.

Meanwhile, NCEA levels two and three would become more specialised.
So these changes are just for year 11? If so then I think it would be a good idea.

The whole "what has the government achieved" is a weak boomer meme.

Even National didn't get around to gutting all our social services in their first term.

Godfrey points to some disappointments that stemmed from their naivety. This somehow translates into "the government does very little".

Maori get it rough because NZ voters don't care about Maori. And because the first time there was decent Maori representation in parliament they sided with the party that just don’t care that much for Maori.

Maori voters have a choice between neglect and abuse. Right now they've got neglect.

Look at the substance. Godfrey's not confused about who he expects gives Maori a better deal. You're not either, are you? And you weren't naive like Godfrey, expecting NZ to be freed from the shackles of neoliberalism in a single term, were you? We're getting a reprieve from its expansion, not salvation.

That everything's not awesome all of a sudden is not the same as "the government has done nothing!"

Is there a scenario here where things wouldn't go wrong? Doing nothing doesn't sound great. Involving the public in the necessary sensitive discussions? May as well skip to cancelling the government, save time.

Is it a full exception for racing (I mean, of course, Winston), or just that trainers can use the courses to keep the animals conditioned? Because if it is back on, I'll need to get some cash the Karen the ex-barmaid for the pub syndicate...

The Ministry Of Primary Industries has announced that training centres, stables, agistment properties and stud farms where horses are in containment are considered essential services under animal welfare considerations.

So it's to have them race ready, not racing itself.

Oh ffs, that guys a liability. He's either too arrogant and/or naive to grasp that he's the fucking health minister and so he really needs to lead by example, so you know, people take the lock-down seriously.

On a somewhat related note apparently regularly driving across the country during the lock-down is absolutely essential for Simon Bridges.
