National Library and Archives New Zealand merging in with Internal Affairs....

Not so sure about NatLib, but ArchNZ split from DIA in 2000 for regulatory reasons (in order to maintain independence from other government departments)....

Now joining back in again...... at the cost of 55 jobs.

Independence doesn't seem to be something that interests this government. Money is the new name of the game.

im yet to actually see anything from this government that actually surprises me. well no, actually, the whole mining in conservation areas thing was out of the blue...

It shouldn't have been TBH, but yeah, I agree. Gerry Brownlee didn't really kept his intentions secret while he was in opposition.
