election 2008
...might as well get this started since we'll be having an election within the next 3 months.
i notice on todays poll that National is only 6.5% ahead of labour. http://www.stuff.co.nz/4681153a6160.html on one hand that poll is surprising: labour has had 3 terms, and its only natural for people to want some change. on the other hand, its not surprising at all: they are running a negative campaign once again. their billboards are full of negative language instead of focusing on positives.... plus the nats are attacking winnie and helen's state of mind, etc. will they ever learn?

That politics for you.
I still have no idea who I'm going to vote for. Silly me to think that the mainstream media were actually going to inform people on what key policy points are between the parties! |

One assumes that the parties actually HAVE key policy points.

Should really be the Nats to lose.
Can't say I have seen any negative ads from Labour. Can't say I have seen any. Like I said elsewhere. It would be nice to have a decent third party. |

its going to be quite close, but labour/greens/nzf is going to be really hard to beat without a solid 40%+ majority for national imo.

http://www.policy.net.nz/about.shtml it has potential, but i dont think its complete because it only uses a party's official site to get their policies, but most party websites suck in this area. eg under tax policy it has nothing for Labour, but Labour's tax policy was announced on this years budget http://beehive.govt.nz/release/tax+c...kers+1+october

last election the green party's total percentage of expat votes (11.05%) were twice as much as their total vote percentage (5.30%) - so I guess there really is a brain drain

Has National declared just what state assets it will sell or public services it will privatise yet?
Re: Greens/Stategic voting. The Maori party should be telling its voters to give them their electorate vote (i.e. get all 7 electorates), but their party vote to a (sorta-)natural(-ish) ally, say the Greens. But AFAIK they don't do this. Bugs me. |

If Winston lives through this and Labour refuses to rule out partnering with them again then I'll vote National (party vote at least).
It'll be worth it to get Winston out of politics. He's such a fucking slimebag...

I'm voting for the New World Order Party.
They haven't published a manifest yet... and they're yet to be approved. But something tells me the lols would be worthwhile. Edit: check out their media/communication skillz: http://www.elections.org.nz/files/New_World_Order.pdf

The only NZ politician who has impressed me lately is Rodney Hide.
National's first billboard campaign is teh suck. Whoever came up with that should be sacked. Aside from Key's "no deal with Winston" I've haven't seen much to recommend the guy as a leader. Winston First? Hopefully someone will drive a stake through that parasite's heart and the nation will be rid of him. Labour? Sorry guys, you've buttfucked the country. The EFA, the politicisation of the police and the public service, the crippling of the armed forces, the list goes on and on. Please for the love of jebus let these incompetent middle-class university socialists with their 1970s attitudes get shown the door. And the Greens? Shit, is there something they haven't tried to ban yet? Humour? Nitrogen? |

Selling off public assets, that's the kind of shit that fucks up a country. While i'm not all that happy with Labour, i'm not really anywhere near unhappy enough to be duped into voting for National. They're simply not better at all. They're worse. And change for changes sake, when they can do so much long term damage is not a viable choice. National still have the edge, but lets see how long that lasts the more people get to know them and their policies. |

Although given the context, you're probably right about the guy's ego, however loving yourself isn't necessarily egotistical. Some believe that you should love others as yourself. So if you don't love yourself, how can you love others?

I've voted left-wing for my last 3 elections, but this year I'm waiting for parties to release their policies before making any decisions. The social policies have always been an important issue for me previously. I voted for Labour based on the WFF package, even though at that time we didn't have kids and weren't planning on them immediately. But anyway, I'll still wait for the policies to be released before making my decision.

What are nationals policies?
Bill English got fucken owned about getting rid of kiwibank when the company line was that they were keeping it. POWNED I don't see any reason to not vote labour. National haven't said anything that would entice me and they haven't exactly got any integrity. They have ousted one failed Politician (Brash) and they have another failed leader who will sit on the front benches (English). Rodney Hide is cool though, I like his jacket. |

Ego would also not really be a criticism to an objectivist.

If Labour get in again we are off over the ditch. Quite sick of being taxed to hell and not getting anything for it. We don't qualify for WFF etc.

those are very powerful billboards by the greens.
meanwhile, looks like the fastest way to get to see national party policy is not by official means, but by one of the countless leaks: http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/576182/2059434

I don't see any chance that there will be a National led government. They're losing support and the other two parties that would go in coalition with them don't have enough between them to prop up a National led government. |

Totally agree. The billboard with the planes makes me think of WWII Air raids, and what's the connection between aeroplanes and tax cuts? and loved ones? Are they saying your loved ones are leaving the country to get away from tax cuts? The big white crosses on the billboard above remind me of the eyes on a cartoon dead person. Probably not the conotation they were aiming for on a billboard for their public health policy... :P |
