Pretty much matches first book exactly (with a few missing/changes etc.. but doesn't go beyond).

Still worth reading, fleshes it out a bit more etc... some parts are skimmed over in TV series. In saying that not massive differences general plot wise.

If you enjoy it, think could read 5 more books now or enjoy probably 1-2 more seasons before TV series gets canned, as these things tend to happen.

No real tits/sex scenes in book that are memorable to me. HBO has a requirement to show tits in any show it does.

My biggest fear with this show is that they wont do the storyline involving the prison + other town, which was just so goddam brutal.

Also that they wuss out on the comics unrelenting willingness to just kill anyone on a whim.

Yeah, I am still watching it, and its still not great.
Barely watchable. Its already been picked up for a second season.. fuck knows why, I found "V" better personally.

I'm looking into RSPro or similar, or GigaNews/similar at the moment.

RS Pro isn't looking all that great - a lot of uploaders are going to fileserve simply because it offers $ for referrals and content. RS doesn't.

VPN looks like the most all round useful solution. Security combined with a US/UK IP for all those annoying country blocks. The few i've looked at in brief seem to be about $10-14nz a month.

Anyone got a recommendation?

Also: newsgroups? Someone here (GT?) extols them from time to time. IIRC the cost of a good connection vs. the cost of bandwidth uploading to torrents swung in favour of newsgroups.

If going to get both, that's $35/month - the same price as the Giganews Diamond account, yet the Diamond account includes the mimo newsgroup client (alleged only one that can properly search the Giganews archives), Golden Frog's ViprVPN (Pro version by the looks... unclear if OpenVPN is included from the Giganews site), and unlimited downloads, so is by far the more flexible solution.

On the other hand as they are all 256-bit SSL encrypted connections, if you feel that is enough and you wouldn't exceed 50GB then Silver is probably best value - next size down is 10GB for $10/m which is pretty limited really, next size up is unlimited for $25/m.

Compare that to 9.90 euro per month for unlimited Rapidshare (SSL only), similar for Megaupload (unless you splurge on the lifetime unlimited 200 euro option), and fileserve.com is $9.99 USD/month. Megaupload and Fileserve both offer discounted rates for buying longer terms.

And there's a fuckload of other similar upload services - CBF going through them all, plus certain ones like filesonic are better off avoided.

Crocos, why do you want both? Is it just that much better getting stuff via newsgroups? Do we expect that the RIANZ etc is going to be able to monitor downloads from newsgroups to NZ? And, do we expect that having a VPN would be sufficient to hide what you're doing from the local mucky mucks? Or is this a case of 'everything we can do to hide ourselves we should'?

I haven't decided which way I'd go - I've used RSPro, Filesonic, Fileserve, GigaNews and UseNext in the past, and all of them bar Filesonic offer good services.

The extra precaution of an additional VPN service on top? That's more so I can get at things like Hulu and related stuff - appear to come from the States or where-ever. Or alternately just get the VPN and stick with torrent.

Ok cool. I manage to top out 50 gigs a month via torrents and usually download more than I get around to watching. So I'm thinking just a VPN would be sufficient.

Oh the choices! Good to know we're not gonna get ground to a stop for TV shows at least heh.
