Thumbs up

Installed a terminal emulator on my phone. It's pretty fuckin cool having a Linux box that fits in your hand (because my raspberry pi hasn't arrived yet!), and knowing I can edit/compile/test code and run bc and do everything I normally do on a PC, on my phone. GCC, Python and Perl, oh my.

"Sorry I missed your call, I was just running distcc on my phone over Wi-Fi to speed up my compile."

Linux.... is fucking awesome.

For me personally, the "phone" function of the iPhone is one of the worst I've used in any phone. I especially hate it when it dials a number seemingly _after_ it locks, the distortion in ear unless I reduce the volume somewhat and the endless issues I have when pairing to two of my handsfree kits that I don'y have issues with any other phone (Can take ages to actually establish a call and when it does, more often than not it says it is, but in fact the caller is audible in the handset only not the hands free kit.)

Other than the "phone" function of the iPhone, my experience is otherwise fine. Unfortunately my phone rings off the hook during business hours, so the phone function is actually quite important... *shrugs*

sounds like your phone is fucked and you should go take it in for a repair, because the phone function on my iphone works perfectly and flawlessly.

I thought it was fucked too, but apparently it is "working as designed" according to Vodafone. Furthermore, other colleagues who have one also claim to have the issue of it dialing, or rather, accepting a keypress after locking or after the screen goes dark. It's being swapped for an Android shortly (the second part of my sojourn to try IOS, Android and Windows), so it wont matter much after that.

I had no doubt that your handset would be just perfect...

Ahhh Apple should have called it the iDevice so that it didn't imply that it's ability to manage phone calls was any good.

Nokia Lumia 900 to be pushed by AT&T harder than they've ever pushed the iPhone.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-574...for-lumia-900/

Key points for those who cbf reading:

"At all levels, this is a notch above anything we've ever done," AT&T device head Jeff Bradley said in an interview with CNET, noting that includes the launch of the iPhone.

The Lumia 900 will be the centerpiece at AT&T stores, with massive signs and posters promoting the device. Nokia and AT&T spent considerable time training store reps, and a majority of them will be carrying one with them at all times.

"Before you walk in to the store, you know this is our hero phone," Bradley said, referring to the Lumia 900's flagship status.

Oh hell no, it's not a great phone-phone; Nokia made the best dedicated (dumb) phone I've ever owned; but this is essentially a computer, and yours does sound way worse than any of mine have been. I do have issues with lag on touches too, especially when I haven't power cycled in a while, but you seem to be getting that extra bit of lemony badness. I've never had trouble with peering, dialling after locking, distortion, or picking up calls using handsfree. That sounds truly shitty and not normal.

Bear in mind I have had two iP4s (one faulty), an iP4S, and I've set up the iP4s of my sister and her ex-husband with their kit. That's five late-model iPhones, and none of them have done anything but the touch lag thing from your post, where you hit the touch screen and takes a few seconds to respond.

i had a play with one that looked like that the other day (i assume its that one but i didnt confirm the numbers coz i dont care anymore, it had lumia in its name though), friend got given it for work, the screen looks amazing, its no "look at my pixel count, isnt it massive" but the quality is fucking great for what its trying to display the screen actually looks like its at the face of the phone rather than what most look like (behind a piece of thick double glazed glass)

all in all its exactly what i expected a top of the line-ish Nokia to feel and look like, exactly the same as it was with my N97 and N95 before it

the letdown? fucking windows, it sucks donkey balls, whoever told them to be all hip and non nonchalantly drop the ends of words off the side of the screen needs a punch in the face with a sack full of broken glass and doorknobs, and the tiles, fuck that, i gave it a fair chance ive always hated windows mobile i was told this one was different, it definitely is this ones like the retarded child of 2 cousins

I face-mute and face-hold people when talking to them. I remember reading somewhere that the iphone4 proximity sensor is not as reliable as the ones in its predecessors, can anyone confirm? Was it fixed in the 4S?

I don't even know why you people are making this so hard on yourselves. Apple products are supposed to be flawless, if something doesn't seem right, it isn't. Don't go to vodafone, phone apple support and tell them your shit is fucked. They will make it right.

It's not difficult to understand that even the best phone on the planet is going to have a few bad apples (HURRRR) when they are pumping out fucking tens of millions of the things with incredibly high tolerences.

Excellent ... still (at least currently) the most secure handset on the market.

Thats actual security wise... not "Angry birds over TLS" which seems to be the extent of your expertise on "phones".

hrm yase the worst handsets the worst software the worst back end systems the worst management the worst brand loyalty

but they have 'better than most' security, should be enough to offset all the negatives and keep them afloat.
