Not sure if sarcasm.

The story goes that the NSA discovered it a while ago and (anecdotally) made use of it for some time without letting MS know about it (cue outrage and insistence that govt agencies should have to advise vendors of such vulnerabilities by law). Revealed by ShadowBrokers a couple of months back just after MS released patch for it (March 14th/15th released). Bad enough that MS have gone so far as to release patches for Win 2000 and XP to help stop it/slow it down.

I might have it wrong, but didn't NSA discover the bug (EternalBlue), and kept/used it, then ShadowBrokers (ie Russia) obtained it in the NSA breach, MS rapidly patched it (although the timing is interesting - the XP patch was supposedly ready to go back in Jan/Feb - possibly due to so many ATMs still using embedded XP??). ShadowBrokers released it (and up popped a devkit) and someone - perhaps even Korea - weaponised it to ransomware.

I got a i7 7700k which I'm running at 4.8mhz under air cooling and its fine.

But the Ryzen chips are pretty good bang for your buck, as long as your playing at 1440p, they seem to be a bit lack luster at 1080p for some reason.

I think mobile communications services need to have some kind of emergency fall back mode that keeps services up during an incident where many people are desperately trying to make contact at once.

Sacrifice some aspect of the service to ensure that some kind of message can be sent/received by everyone trying to communicate.

My guess is that managing the large volume of connections would be the main limitation.
