2008 Super 14 Squads Named
Not a lot of big surprises for me. However I'm extremely miffed as to why Hawkes Bay's Matt Berquist (Fly Half) has not been included in any teams or even mentioned after his outstanding season. If anyone has information as to why I'd very much appreciate it.

Checked the points tables: Top Point scorers Pts Jimmy Gopperth (WEL) 164 Stephen Brett (CAN) 147 Isa Nacewa (AUK) 128 Matt Berquist (HAW) 122 Stephen Donald (WAI) 120 Jack McPhee (HBR) 115 Brent Ward (AUK) 101 Gopperth might not be everyone's flash in the pan 1st-five, but he got the job done better than every other 1st five in the competition. Sorry - Gopperth is SHIT. He is not up to Super 14 level and he has proved this over the last 3 seasons.
The Canes are in desperate need of a class 10 imo. I don't care about his ANC form. |

The imports we got last season to help cover 1st five sucked arse worse than Gopperth, and nobody else in the country who is available is showing any more promise in the ANC season to prove they deserve a start ahead of Gopperth. Top points scorer in the ANC will always get a start ahead of a flash-in-the-pan boy from the Bay. |

Berquist, Bowden (gone to Highlanders) or that rising star from th Naki even Harbours McPhee.
Basically anyone is better than Jimmy Dropperth. Apparently this guy from the Naki (playing in their reserves) is the next big thing. |

Ripia or Lachie Munroe also........
Heaps of talent to chose from directly or from the draft. |

Points table means nothing mate.
Canes lack tactical kicking and pivot/play maker. Gopperth fales at both terribly. You are assuming every number 10 is the kicker for a start. Piri can kick very well, you don't even need the number 10 to be the Canes kicker. Players like Lachie Munroe weren't starters.. so hes obviously going to get less points if you want to go down that track. I rate Munroe ahead of Gopperth and hes just 1 player Ive listed. |

Matt Berquist is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than Gopperth, I can't understand why he wasn't in any S14 squads, maybe he's not eligible or playing overseas or something.
