So... Common sense wins?

As in don't install apps that require unjustified permissions.

Either lazy Dev who hasn't worked out what permissions actually needed.
Or the app is doing something you don't expect it to be doing.
Why would a game need access to my messages? etc.

Still love it! Battery life is only slightly less than the Z3, screen is much more vibrant, don't even have to think to take photos, just double tap home button and snap away and the images are always super good. I'm even loving TouchWiz now that it's slimmed down and has the option of a nice flat looking theme, and it's super fast (one thing I hated on previous ones was that for some reason on my phones the gallery app would take forEVER to load, not anymore thankfully).

I don't really play games, though, only Fallout Shelter - that runs fine, but can't comment on anything else.

If I'm honest I don't really think about my phone anymore, because it just does everything I want.

Third - and this isn't really a question but more of a tongue-in-cheek pondering - does this attack make iOS the least secure mobile operating system? This single attack alone has definitely successfully infected more iPhones than the total number of Android phones that have ever been infected - which I find strangely hilarious. ...

All made worse that - even though it's theoretically plausible to bypass the corruption - can you really trust someone that claims a way to create the uncorrupted compiler without creating a pile of from-scratch toolchains to debug and verify that? And by "from scratch" I mean exactly that - BIOS on up all hand-coded and manually verified for expected size and hash.

I dunno man. Maybe the specs aren't shit, but they seem underwhelming. The Galaxy S6 looks better spec'd, as well as both the OnePlus One and OnePlus Two which are considerably cheaper than either the Apple or Samsung offerings but just as good build quality-wise.

Of course, you'll point out that Apple doesn't market based on specs, they market on the rad things the beautiful revolutionary Apple ecosystem brings the user. But Apple seems to have become boring and lacking in innovation since Jobs left the scene. The Ipad Pro seems to be playing catch-up with the Surface Pro. And since I'm a Poor, when it comes to smartphones I'd rather pay $550 than, say, $1000+

Just went from a 4S to a 6S, it's annoyingly big but holy hell it's quick.
6S guts in a smaller body, 5/5S size would be pretty nice.

Speaking of phones for poors, I brought a Xaiomi Redmi 2 for someone - been using it whilst I set it up for the person I brought it for, and it's actually really good. It's quick, smooth, and very configurable (uses MIUI)

It's no powerhouse, but for someone who just wants mail / web / txt / photos / music and some light games, it works nicely.

Dual sim, 4G, and camera isn't shit.

Sure it's probably siphoning my bank accounts and participating in a DDOS on whitehouse.gov right now - but hey.

At $160 NZ can't really argue.

iOS9 glitch/bug.

Around at some friends house last night for BBQ, she had just updated to iOS9 (IP6) and was complaining that her calls were garbled. Made a call to her phone, her end, voice was coming out real slow, our end, sounded like she was talking at 40mph.

Resolved with a Power Off/On.

sounds like a telco glitch - wrong compression bit rate being applied to the audio of the call. AMR not even once. going airplane mode on/off probably would have fixed it too.

Apple service

So about 3 weeks ago I dropped my IPhone 6 and cracked the screen. On the Apple website there wasn't any mention of a fee just for fixing a cracked screen (unlike in Australia and the US, for example -- there was nothing else wrong with my phone aside from the screen). Anyhow, I did an online chat early Saturday morning and was quoted a price of $177 or so to fix the screen.

Tried to get the local Apple authorised repairers to take my phone but they claim to know nothing about being able to fix the screen. A couple of phone calls to Apple later (was put on hold quite a few times), they profusely apologised for their local repairers not being able to repair my phone and agreed that the only option was a mail-in repair. Then the Apple CSR told me that my repair would be free as a gesture to show how much they regretted the amount of time I had to spend on this issue.

Nice. Even nicer when someone has now bought my perfectly repaired and otherwise flawless 6 and that I have a 6S.

I recall you using Mac OS / iOS unix roots as a badge of OS superiority . . .

FWIW - I sshd into my ipod touch long before any Android device!

Anyone using an iP6S+ here? Any problems/loves/hates with it yet? Current handset is up for renewal and I'm leaning towards going back to iOS to try out the latest offering (currently on Samsung Galaxy Note 4).
