oh hai Vodafone, we have a fault with our pilot ntu unit. we've found if we busy up the first unit with out going calls, we can suddenly start receiving calls again. yes, power cycling the unit has cleared the fault.

Vodafone: oh right ok, we'll let chorus know and get them to check it out

...

oh hai Vodafone, no one came to check it out

Vodafone: oh right, yeah um ok, well there's currently no fault so chorus wont fix anything. ps, [bunch of bollocks]

...

oh hai Vodafone, we currently cannot receive calls as the pilot ntu is intermittently faulty ... oh wait the fault has cleared. put monitoring on the lines for a month please, as it seems to occur every few weeks.

Vodafone: ok yup

...

hi Vodafone, i'm calling to check that the month worth of monitoring has been placed on our lines

Vodafone: yup, I can see the request here.

...

oh hai Vodafone, we have monitoring on this line, please provide the fault info as we currently have an outage

Vodafone: um yeah
Vodafone: ahh, yeah
Vodafone: ... i'll put you on hold
Vodafone: ... *click*

...

oh hai Vodafone account manager: [bunch of stuff, oh, so that bunch of bollocks really was bollocks? thanks for that]
oh hai Vodafone: so about that montoring?

Vodafone: oh yeah, so um, chorus did 48 hours of monitoring beginning the next day and found no fault

oh hai Vodafone account manager: get monitoring placed on our lines mkay? and yeah I know chorus don't like doing this as someone has to keep pressing the red button on the ticket every day but it's the only way to catch this fault.

Vodafone: ok yup i'll put that request through

...

oh hai Vodafone, we currently have a fault on our pilot - so hows about that monitoring?
Vodafone ...

...
...
...
...

^ that's the TLDR version as I've left out dozens of calls there. turns out they had their OWN monitoring and didn't need to get monitoring from chorus. They finally find faults through their own logging which they can pass to chorus, and chorus the next day replace the ntu.

the telecomms industry in nz is just a big clusterfuck. there doesn't seem to be a proper connect between the service providers and chorus. Vodafone can put a request through but from the above experience, don't get confirmations?

new connections for example - there seems to be a manual process of a service provider having to manually check their tickets with chorus to see if a step has been completed before the provider can progress.

Ah yes, I enjoyed my time working in the industry to support my filthy student lifestyle. My training involved two weeks of watching my senior watch Breaking Bad. It was great, I got a lot of reading done!

It's not limited to chorus, unfortunately. Vodafone didn't help the cause here.

I have a lot of respect for geni/spark managed data however as they always provided follow up calls or else call you before you even know of a fault. Not that the follow ups were needed as their faults were always very temporary, while promptly and professionally dealt with.

Domestic is another kettle of fish where you get slave labour service in return for their third world slave labour rates. Much fun where overseas csrs have very limited access to do any real help, exasperated by ufb where support is provided by dedicated local teams that you must jump through hoops to get help from.

I've landed several quick contracts directly through LinkedIn when recruiters and the normal avenues were a bit dry. It's also resulted in being "poached" by my current employer after they found and reviewed my profile. I can't really complain tbh.

Each time a set of Apple //e motherboards comes up on TM they go for a ridiculous amount. The community was pretty unanimous when $15 each was high for a bunch of 5 untested. Now a few weeks later, 3 go for $53 FFS.

There is a limit to how much I can wangle under the old girls nose - I shat myself when she borrowed the car a while back and didn't find the vintage Mac I had stashed in the boot.

No, I don't need an intervention, just a spare motherboard to run tests against!

Why do news outlets refer to gun-toting murderers as "active shooters"? The un-emotive language really grinds my gears.

Half the day I have to put up with the regular beeping of some truck that's involved in putting in new drainage. The other half I have to put up with the tui mimicking that truck.

What kind of a tard are you? Slow down sure, but keep ya eyes on the road. Giving them the hairy eyeball via a mirror? They won't be able to see you're doing that.

My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, but there was a time when I would have been able to see if someone was doing that. A person should still keep their eyes on the fucking road though.

Why stare at them. They wont notice that.
They will notice when you randomly brake - not enough for them to hit you but enough to tell them to get the Fuck Off

If they are Asian or female, resting your left foot on the brake just enough to put the lights on generally does the trick.

Dudes who follow too close are just being impatient fuckers so I just get out the way or ignore them and watch out for anything up ahead that might require heavy braking.

You totally can do both.

I don't have perfect vision - I wear glasses and can totally tell when the driver of a car I'm following is looking at me in their mirror

Ps, why so serious?

If its on any form of open road, or out of the main centres I definitely let them pass. They are likely to be the idiots that will do a dangerous passing manoeuvre

Ah, 5.5month old

Yeah, dump them down and give them 10 minutes of crying before fussing again. Ours initially cried for 9 minutes.
