This isn't a "sabbatical". Hayman lives in England and will be moving to France to play for Toulon for two years. He has decided to focus on his career and has made himself unavailable for the 2011 World Cup. End of story.

I mean shit, I'd have pause for thought if someone offered me a few million and some place awesome in France to live for a couple of years.

Good on him. Gotta take care of himself. He's already done enough hard yards for NZ and should be allowed to set himself up for life while he can still demand top dollar. Yeah I'd love for him to play for the ABs in the next world cup but can understand why he'd choose not to. Asking him to give up his pension for another stab at the RWC is a bit too much.

Neither would I like to see the NZRU make an exception for him or change their eligibility rules. Super14 would suck without our top players as our franchises just can't complete with the money that the French and UK clubs are throwing around.
