Haven't tried the new model, but I assume they wouldn't re-do the driver unless they got them to sound even better. YMMV, NFI, WTFHAX, etc.

I'm onto my 3rd pair in 3 months. It seems the rubber in the cable that goes from the little silver bit up top with mdr-ex71 written on it to the earbuds goes soft and disintegrates after about a month of use. It's a bitch cos these headphoens are awesome, but it's a pain having to return them for a new pair every month.

I've had 2 black pairs, but just replaced them with a white pair, so hopefully the rubber in the cable will be slightly different.
Argh the cable just ripped on my newest pair today.. Wonder when the new ones are going to be released...

Does anyone know where you can get some replacement buds from for the MDR-71's? I lost my last lot when I was up skiing...

Give SonyStyle a call. If they can't get them, they're not available.

BTW, how do you lose the buds? Are you talking about just the silicone bits, or the whole cable, driver and earpiece?

Which were the ear plugs that were all gooey and stuff so they fit your ear nicely? I need a pair for the gym, I hafta play my music too loud to overcome the gym music so I want something that'll block out the noise. Acoustic noise cancelling would be a plus too.

Well, I lost the majority of them when I moved flat (god knows where they got to).

However, I lost 1 of the the little silicon things when I was up skiing. When I pulled the phones out of my pocket, the ear piece mustve caught on something and fallen out.

In any case, Ill give Sony Style a call.

You don't really need noise cancelling with the Sony buds - they block ~30db just by having them in your ears.

just be aware that if you use a treadmill you'll find they'll fall out.

I use them at the Gym as well, and it seems that only one side falls out. It doesn't really do it that often, but if you're getting them primarily for use at the gym, I'd look elsewhere.

I bought some black MDR EX71s today to use with my iPod at the gym. I already own a pair of Sennheiser HD202s, which rock.

I love em. At first I thought they were crap, but after changing to a different-sized silicone fitting, they sound wicked. I hope I don't run into the same issue as you Melon Will let you know.

Picked them up for $70 parallel imported from ETown, Broadway Newmarket. www.etown.co.nz

According to Sony, they hafta order them from Japan or something and they cost almost as much as new ones.

Find someone who doesn't fit your size maybe, do a swap?

ive tried a couple of wireless headphones, and the quality was crap. can't remember exactly, but off the top of my head it was a mild hissing sound, or poor responce with gaming sound effects and upper frequency sounds in music. Perfectly fine for watching telly, not much else. One of them was a $200 technics set. (not suggesting technics is supposed to be quality or otherwise)

I hadn't read this before I went into DSE, so I picked up a pair of these Sony MDR-NC6 Noise Cancelling Headphones, they have a neat little plug with lets me use them on airplanes, which will be great for up coming trips to the states.

Oh nice dig at my hearing there son, but you fucked up. I have no bone conduction in my ears, which is a form of hearing impairment. It doesn't mean I can't hear volume wise it means my ears don't "decode" certain frequencies.

Did I mention you're short, bald and fat?

^^ definitely

if you can't distinguish certain frequencies then you probably couldn't tell a difference between a good pair of headphones and a pair of average/shitty ones
