I'm a little disappointed that they're going the Mass Effect route of locking you into male human or female human with a specific background.. All because they want it fully voiced

If you really can't wait, it seems that the instructions Fobski posted for Borderlands back in the day works well for DA2 as well.
http://www.nzgames.com/forums/showpo...0&postcount=88 Steam seems to take a while to login -- the throughput on the trial version of the VPN is super limited -- but it does eventually go through. After it unlocks the game, restart steam, then you'll be able to launch the game / set Steam offline, etc. Given it unlocks tomorrow though, unsure it's really worth the risk. Still, bit naff we had to wait longer at all, originally was to unlock for us 00:01 on the 9th.

DX11 version is unstable as hell on ATI.. Official support says to use pre-release 11.4 drivers, but only link to Windows 7 version
Luckily DX9 seems to let me play without crashing to desktop every 5 minutes. |

Apparently Merrill walks like 1% slower every time you save the game until eventually she just stands still, and Isabella has an ability that increases her attack speed passively and if she has that and then you stop having her in the party ever, even if you go to your house to remove injuries, you permanently lose as much attack speed on Hawke as her ability is meant to give. So... don't get too attached to Merrill (even though she's the best companion!) and don't use Isabella D:
