No pretending, I was clear with what I said. I don't side with the NZ Green Party.
The bitter, so bitter i gotta spit irony, is that one of the ways I put myself in the socialist camp is that I believe in a strong public schooling system. |

Here is something that I disagree with from their front page "Ended New
Offshore Exploration". They say it was done to address climate change but it won't take a single car of the roads in New Zealand. What they should have done is take the profits and put it into something like a national electric car charging grid. |

Ruling out conversation on wealth tax 'not credible' - Shaw
We'll have to see what negotiating position Shaw has. But should he find himself with a modicum of leverage, I wonder if what was previously shown as problematic might now work in favour of the party. Specifically Shaw's negotiating tactics. Should the Greens get the support they need, I think they've set themselves up well to be demanding, given their willingness to play along during the previous term. They have to be nervous though. Or maybe not, depending on what their polling says and what faith they put into that.

I would now doubt that Labour would go back and support the Greens wealth tax.
But I wouldn't doubt they will spin it another way and it will be a tax under another name. |

But also it's far too progressive for a Labour party that couldn't get a CGT passed.

Upcoming Rocket Lab launch carrying United States Army satellite breaches New Zealand's national security - Green Party
On one hand this seem inevitable. A US company can act in the interests of the US. I'm guessing we won't be seeing Chinese or Russian military tech being launched from Mahia, but maybe I'm wrong. On the other hand it seems like the thin edge of the wedge. And having US capacity launched from NZ makes NZ a target. In a fairly inconsequential way right now, but perhaps not always, especially as space grows in significance. Rocket Lab maintains ‘no weapons’ commitment - 11/02/21 Payload disquiet - 09/03/21

Some more coverage of the issue:
Mahia, We Have A Problem On one hand it's exciting that New Zealand is on the cutting edge like this. Peter Beck's achievements makes one almost want to indulge in some nationalism. On the other what is this changing world we're apart of and who gets to have a say? Altho I feel bad posting a North & South link. I was completely happy to throw them under the bus for the sake of not having to see gossip mags at the supermarket isle. Especially since the article is decent.

James Shaw may not have been green enough - Delahunty
It's a tough spot to be in being an environmentally concerned political party. Do you prioritise being electable, getting done what you can. Or do you prioritise being extreme, doing your best to drag the rest of the electorate a little more towards the centre?

It’s a hard road, being a white male in a party taken over by bright-eyed Twitter activists.
Crazy that it only takes 25% of votes to sack a co-leader. In any normal environment a candidate getting 75% in a vote would be described as “a landslide majority indicating overwhelming support”. Nope. Only oppression points count. |
24th July 2022, 15:49 | #274 |
|
Or 25% to go back to nominations. Shaw can still be nominated, and get 75% of the vote to stay.
Maybe it is to help stop of the political shit that goes down with coups, and the behind the scenes whispering. The greens know they have many different factions in their group. So a small number can force a leader to be tested again. |

The activists will keep on voting and changing rules until Chloë Swarbrick is elected co-leader, which is the outcome they want. If Shaw wins the next vote they’ll change the rules so that they have to have at least one co-leader who identifies as neurodivergent, or is on medication for depression, or has a name with an umlaut.
