I started with just an ipod Touch but the hassle of carrying that around with my normal flip cellphone just pissed me off, so iPhone it is, the only thing that kind of pissed me off is that with the iPhone you need to charge the little bugger every other day, with my touch it was about once a week.

it is a pain in the arse with no bluetooth file transfer, freggen apple!

Is it actually confirmed that there is no bluetooth file transfer?
personally I would never use it for file transfer since the only files I would want could easily be sent through iTunes. |

Hey jodi.
I have an 8gb touch, which I won in a lucky draw thing. I figured I'd want to use it, but long story short, I probably won't much (thought I would be commuting and needing music but then I got a company car). You're welcome to buy it for $290 if you want. It's out of the wrapper though and has my music on it, I figure you can just reset these things but who knows, perhaps not. It's been used for about 4 - 5 hours total. Flick me an email if you're keen, [email protected] |

There's no blue tooth file transfer on the first gen ones, this may change on the 2nd gen. I haven't heard anything about blue tooth being limited on the new ones.

I'm really hoping the ~$800 price tag for the 16G is close. Wouldn't want it to be much more than that.
The more I use my iPod Touch the more I want it to be a phone as well. I'm just not looking forward to getting all my contacts off my Nokia and onto my iPhone |

Thanks for the input guys, (That note on battery life was eyebrow raising)
I decided to get a iPodTouch. Its the contract cancellation cost/contract cost that put me off the iphone, and the battery life doesn't instill confidence either (even though the gen2 iphone is meant to have better battery life). Lets hope I'm right when the iPhone comes out, or i'll never hear the end of it :-) Oh, thanks for the offer of your touch dylan, but i've already ordered mine. Maybe someone else on NZGames feels like a touch. *snigger*

UK o2 has prepay too, most likely at the $499 US unsubsidised rate (8gbs).

I'm not saying they should be competing with xnet price wise. But $1/MB? The megabyte became trivial years ago. Last edited by xin : 20th June 2008 at 19:51. |

Na, that's not a rip-off!
1 sms message = (max of) 160 7-bit characters = 1,120 bits = 140 bytes 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes (SI units) = 7142 sms messages 1 sms message costs 20 cents Therefore, sending 1 MB via sms costs $1,428! Of course if you don't max out your 160 characters (or if you base it on 1024^2 bytes) it's much more expensive. That's a rip-off. |

Based on Vodafone Italy pricing
http://www.vodafone.com/start/media_...launches1.html Looks like non-contract 16GB iPhones will be around $1200 NZD at today's exchange rate. GG Vodafone |

I'm fine with waiting to see what happens.
Doesn't sound overly ridiculous. Looks like a great device. |

I'll be sticking with my N95 and 8GB Nano.
I can in no way justify $1200 for a phone that doesn't do MMS. |

i hope to import one... none of this overpriced, dirty vodafone branding...

Vodafone still have the original N95 listed as $999, so I don't see what the big deal is. $1200 for brand new 16GB iPhone sounds about right. Also, who would want to buy one out of contract anyway? Which other NZ GSM provider are you going to take it to?

This is assuming they will have the back end stuff for the voicemail, etc, to work properly.

At the rate Vodafone's services have been steadily declining (MMS being out for hours at a time the past couple of weeks), I really can't guarantee I'll be a customer of theirs this time next year. If the 3G network can't load the Live! homepage currently without timing out 7 times out of 10, then I have little faith it'll be able to cope with the iPhone launch and inevitable traffic. |

But in regards to the comment about "who would want to buy one out of contract" That would be me & probably you too. Yeah, I'm on a 24 month contract that my work pays for but VF only give you "Contract prices" on phones when you are signing up to a new contract OR re-signing your current contract at the end of your term. All other times you have to pay standard retail full price for phones. And I'm nearly 100% sure that will be the case with the iPhone. |

I don't have a current contract, but I'll definitely get into one to drop the price of the phone. I don't have any plans to change providers any time soon.

Sometimes (like in my case) changing number just isn't worth it, and as far as I know, if you just terminate like that you don't get to keep your current number?
