The network could cancel one of the new shows, leaving a spot for Reaper. CW president of entertainment, Dawn Ostroff, confirms that the show could return as early as October, if that happens.

There have been occasional moments in the last few seasons still. The box-fort siege sequence from last season somewhere was pure gold IMHO!

The quality of the writing these days is nowhere near what is was during the 'golden age' of ~seasons 4 to 12. Watch a classic ep like Last Exit to Springfield and you'll see what I mean. The last four or five seasons have been prettty dire, but it's still generally more watchable than most other shows.
