Warcraft turned out to be okay. I had low expectations, but it's got a lot going for it. Fantastic CGI.

It is interesting watching the trailers for Rogue One and seeing tons of stuff that didn't make the final cut....I guess those rumors about extensive reshooting were spot on..
Tarkin I could handle, Leia just looked weird.. |

Watched Krull this evening with my lad.
There was a movie that must have come out early 80's and I vaguely remember a scene where someone is given a magic rock but throws it away thinking it's useless however it proves its use when they end up trapped underwater ... what fantasy movie was this?

Arrival - the ending was good but apart from that I f found it very overrated.
Moana - a bit long for a kids movie but done really well, zero cringes had.

You know that our cultural production has reached its apex when the most important variable for determining whether something is good or not is how much that thing made you cringe.

Thinking of taking the girl along to see Hidden Figures on Saturday night.
Had an incident over Xmas where her gran asked why she got boy's toys for Xmas when the daughter showed her the gummy bear piano on the makey-makey. Gran was on the receiving end of many sideways glances. I mean, she'd previously knitted with EL wire, baked a TARDIS gingerbread cake that included an audio playback circuit, and dropped off Contreau brownies and an arduino based laser cat toy to the local celebrity chef. I don't think she is lacking in the girly department. |

Doctor Strange was crap. If you cut out all the inceptioning around the movie would be half the length.

Cumberbatch's American accent was naff, in that educated-British-actor-failing-to-sound-American-Hugh-Laurie-House kinda way. But I thought he nailed the character. Good casting. I've always had a boner for Mads Mikkelsen I mean Rachel McAdams so no complain of product there. Thought Tilda Swinton was pretty win as the Ancient One. I'll be honest not the hugest Strange fan growing up so some of the internal references went over my head. But I thought the movie was pretty good. Not Avengers or Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy good, but a strong B+. I fucking loooooooved the dark dimension sequences though, that was some trippy Steve Ditko shit. |

Apparently she's the bookies' odds-on fave for Doctor 13. That'd be pretty cool.

It would be cool, but there no doubt would be a backlash over it.

re: Strange. Admittedly I knew nothing about the character so that didn't help, but I could say the same thing about Ant Man which I really enjoyed.
Watched Arrival the other day (Amy Adams + Hawkeye), Aliens arrive on earth and we have to work out how to talk to them. It's a slow boil but the ending gets inside your head and left us thinking. A little wibblywobbly timeywimey perhaps but still worth the watch. |

It was pretty awesome and really glad it had a R rating. It definitely gave it a better feel. Although I wonder if they did overdo the killing a bit? |
