Just remember to ask your friendly telco to remove interleaving to get those sweet LPB pings.

6 months after ordering, finally UFB was finished off today. Not as fast as the DMR I left behind 14 months ago, but a hell of a lot more reasonably priced (also tested via wireless, not ethernet coz I'm being lazy).

14 months of being on a service with a 1Mbps upload was excruciating after 100/100.

Upgrade of the equipment in your local cabinet?
I seem to recall reading something in the papers about some vdsl upgrade being rolled out.

Found it.

Olds? didn't know any small towns in Alberta had fiber except there.

Im on 50Mb down/15Mb up fiber in Calgary for $60 a month. How are New Zealand Datacaps vs rest of the world. Over here I get 600 gigs a month included in my package.

Datacaps start at 80GB or unlimited for ~$10 more, depending on your ISP.

eg.
Orcon: 100GB for $80, 200GB for $90, unlimited $95

That map sucks, you can't scroll it or anything. Here's the old one which is much more useful, IMO:

Hooked this up today and have gone from a frustrating 2Mbps ADSL to sweet sweet 25Mbps 4G. It will be a challenge keeping the data usage under control and I figure it will become 100Gb for $135 by the end of the month.

I wired the house for Cat5e 14 years ago when we moved in so main desktop & media box etc. are all cabled on gigabit Ethernet. WiFi seems ok on it (but obviously not 200Mbps). The DECT phones are good - although seriously considering ditching them altogether.

I get that on plain ole ADSL.

Currently battling with horrible line noise; have rewired my house completely (it was a spiderweb of shitty wiring beforehand). Essentially I did what this guy recommends: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/sbiddle/8357

Solved the problem temporarily. Went from 4-6dB SNR and frequent disconnections to 8-9, then all of a sudden lost connection for a few days. Chorus came out and diagnosed some shitty connections external to the house and re-did them, got me back online, but have suffered disconnections since.

Strangely, I updated windows last night and haven't been d/c'd once. Although still only getting a 5.0db SNR margin.

I reckon the process of laying fibre in my street is fucking with my copper. But i'll suffer the inconvenience if it means fibre is coming in a few months.

TLDR - I have unstable net, and can't wait for fibre.

Doesn't scream VDSL ready to me with that SNR and attenuation.

I've asked the ISP for the Chorus pre qual, as I'm sure they'd decline the install if it appeared too crap to them.

Approx 700m from closest cabinet but that attenuation suggests well over 1000m

Had a similar experience getting VDSL installed @ mums place, was even worse that those stat's Bob. Turned out that she was 'borderline' on getting VDSL (around 800m of copper), cutting back to adsl2+ got better speeds & reliability. Fibre now being rolled past her driveway, so next step is an upgrade to UFB.

100/20 here, via Paradise/TelstraClear/Saturn/Vodafone cable. "Unlimited" internet, certainly pretty convenient.

I upgraded from ADSL to VDSL even though I was 100% borderline.

Went from 14/0.8 to 24/2.4

Not bad.

(Fiber due June 2018, ugh)

Does your router have SNR reporting?

I thought if your attenuation was anything over 9 they'd simply not bother trying VDSL...

[edit] maybe 12db attenuation, checking now.

[edit edit] colleague advises me spark won't look at VDSL for lines with attentuation over 10.8.

Chorus is reporting LA of 12db, so from there to 23db would probably be internal wiring.

I'll try and find the main phone jack and go without a filter/splitter, but if that's no better I'll be back to ADSL.
