That, and the context it's occurring in.

By the way since this site is hosted in an Australian datacentre now I wish to clarify that my post about the "Christian Porter rape circus" referred to the fact that this horrible crime involving the alleged rape of a teenager who later killed herself will need the full attention of the government's top lawyer, Attorney-General Christian Porter, who for some reason has been conspicuously absent from all press conferences regarding the matter and who seems to have dropped off the face of the earth all of a sudden. Also, a circus.

Simple, Australia is a surveillance state run by a bunch of pricks who don't care about human rights.

And the government of South Australia, one of the country’s six states, developed and is now testing an app as Orwellian as any in the free world to enforce its quarantine rules. People in South Australia will be forced to download an app that combines facial recognition and geolocation. The state will text them at random times, and thereafter they will have 15 minutes to take a picture of their face in the location where they are supposed to be. Should they fail, the local police department will be sent to follow up in person. “We don’t tell them how often or when, on a random basis they have to reply within 15 minutes,” Premier Steven Marshall explained. “I think every South Australian should feel pretty proud that we are the national pilot for the home-based quarantine app.”
Jeeeehehehezus!

I've already stopped taking my mobile phone out of the house, now it's time to put it in landfill and look for a new country to live in.

Context: when people enter South Australia from overseas or a different state, rather than doing their 14 day quarantine at some shitty Federal quarantine facility or an MIQ hotel in the middle of a city, they will be allowed to isolate at private residences - provided they can prove that they're staying put.

No big, IMHO. And I ain't no Marshall govt fan.

Don't ever make phone calls - Facetime, Signal, VOIP instead. Don't ever SMS. Don't ever send email from an ISP account. Don't access the net directly, always VPN. Don't access social media or web communities through anything other than pseudonymous accounts. Be prepared for any device you have to be taken off you and scanned at any moment, never to be returned. Bear in mind that any person with whom you're corresponding may do none of these things.

After 9/11 all the emergency laws and policies were rushed through to combat Al Qaeda. Now that the Taliban is a "Partner in Afganistan" we'll just roll back all those laws passed in the name of War on Terror...

* This article originally failed to specify that South Australia's quarantine app will be required only of people quarantining at home, not those quarantining in hotels.
Nah, yeah, kinda important.

Fuck that's a funny article, with every reading it gets worse. The author is on the verge of crying about how Australians are being denied the right to privacy guaranteed to them by the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution. They'll be coming for our guns next.
