I thought it sucked. And not just the bad CG - the decision to have Luke in the episode, and how he was in it. It was cheap nostalgia fan service.

Better than resurrecting Mace Windu though! At least the path to the misguided final trilogy has some background.

As much as I loved Mando, and enjoyed the announcement of so many spin off series, I'm concerned. Like a fish & chip shop that offers stir fry, curry, and pizza on its menu - it can't be doing all of those things well.

summary: holy shit the sequel trilogy turned out so bad, we have to memoryhole that shit ASAP. We have to act like it never happened and swamp the marketplace with content that has no connection to it at all.

Yeah, I thought it was going to be Windu.

I hated it for multiple reasons:

1. the uncannyvalleyness of the CG. Why oh why can't they get this stuff right? Disney has unlimited money and there are kids doing deepfakes on youtube in their bedrooms that look better. It's not even as good as the de-aging that Marvel did in Ant-Man and GotG2.

2. they KNEW that the CG didn't look right so Luke had fuck-all to do or say. He was basically a prop.

3. the CG body double Luke carving it up through the new battle droids was a shallow repeat of Vader in Rogue One. And it's nice to know that droid tech hasn't improved at all since the "roger roger" days.

and continuing from my response to bob above,

4. the use of Luke as a deus ex machina with a cameo from Artoo is a pathetic acknowledgement from Disney bosses that milking Star Wars for nostalgiabucks from ageing Gen Xers is now the priority. It's sad.

I definitely had mixed feelings, but I settled on being satisfied with seeing a Jedi showing off their abilities for once. Droids are obviously a flawed opponent for a Jedi. Luke seemed like the only option, I was dreading some Jedi bought back to life or dug up from some obscure character by some uncited, unpaid EU author. Moff Gideon's obvious fear worked very well too I thought.

Star Wars has always existed to sell merch. It's just what we have to expect.

Good question, but does the fact that we are not in a Mandolorian specific thread mean that it should be longer?
Otherwise people need to avoid a whole thread just for a fear of a spoiler.

But based on the fact that it is a streamed show, so you don't have to leave the house to go see it at the movies, then if you haven't seen it with a day or 2 then its your own fault

They're trying to deepfake over the shitty animation from the original. All they needed was an extra with similar facial structure to Hamill to read the lines then dub and deepfake him. I won't deny feeling a serious fanboy thrill when his face first appeared but yeah... it didn't last long.
