Disagree.

Most native language speakers will have a vocab of between 20K-35K words by adulthood. The word trivial is well within the top 20K of regularly used words. It's not jargon or a field specific word usage. Even if the student doesn't specifically know the word (which they should) they should be able to extrapolate the general meaning from other similar words (such as Trivia) and its usage within the question.

I guess I failed adulthood.
I never knew that the word Trivia actually meant
"matters or things that are very unimportant, inconsequential, or nonessential"

Still, let's say that 75% of the 17/18 year old's did know the meaning of the word, the exam wasn't English, or a spelling bee.
The point of the question was to agree or disagree with the question and why.

So that means 25% of them wouldn't be able to do that because they don't know what they were talking about. So while they possibly would have answered the question, they couldn't.

Primary school cancels prizegiving: 'Schools are not about ranking and sorting'
Quote:
"Children are likely to become enthusiastic, lifelong learners as a result of being provided with an engaging curriculum; a safe, caring community in which to discover and create; and a significant degree of choice about what, and how and why, they are learning," Lockie wrote.

"Rewards – like punishments – are unnecessary when these things are present, and are ultimately destructive in any case.

"There is abundant research showing that awards, rewards and other external incentives undermine intrinsic motivation. For the majority of children who don't receive awards, the prizegiving spurs boredom, anger or resentment."
This almost seems counter intuitive as people generally believe that failing, passing and rewards are motivational. With younger kids (yrs 1-6) ultimately we want them to be enthusiastic about and motivated to learn and so I think ranking kids achievement would be detrimental to this.

I was repeatedly practicing the riff from another brick in the wall on my ukulele when my son jumps on his to practice gold on the ceiling.

For a more than a few moments of hilarity he was doing a weird cross over of the two songs. And it was good.

I happened to be listening to this track at the same time I saw this. It's a spooky track, now somewhat more substantive.

Imagine if McDonald's marketing budget for the last 20 years had been spent on motivating us to action on climate change rather than spending up on carbs, salt and fat. We'd already be patting ourselves on the back for a crisis averted.

Instead we're fat and a few buggers are a bit richer.

I'm sure that's how the baby boomers see it too. When mum bitches about immigration, foreign house buyers, too many cars on the road, accelerating change of technology she concludes the bitching with a self-consolation: "Oh well, I won't be around much longer." You don't need clean air and drinking water if you're dead.

Intersect that with the US mid-west bible belters who are convinced they don't need to worry about climate change because the rapture is coming before then...

haha. Religious nihilism is certainly on the more optimistic side of the nihilist spectrum. If there is a God then there was meaning to life afterall.

Oh my - sitting in a plane full of grumpy people who have been delayed, and the call comes over the speakers from the flight deck.

"We're about to show the safety video. Please don't take it out on the crew, we didn't make it, we just have to show it..."

The hostees were a group of more mature women, whom I am sure were dying on the inside while they had to stand there.

A headline for the 21st century

24 Amazon workers sent to hospital after robot accidentally unleashes bear spray

No news yet of any of the workers being related to that chap from Boston Dynamics with the hockey stick.

Had mushies and a bush walk with mum the other day. I can report that talking about banking, housing market, Auckland traffic problems, and NZ Herald stories of small business owners does not allow one to lean back into the warm euphoria of beauty, nature, and connectedness.

We stopped for lunch on a rock and she said "They are very mild aren't they!?" . Yep.

That's a pretty fucked up fable by western standards. As for "not intended for that device", well, that really explains why it was translated and told in English clear enough for 3 year olds to understand.

Sounds more like manufacturer has a complete cultural disconnect from their customer base.

Given my tolerance for spicy, I would say Korean hot. On the menu it was listed as "danger spicy".
