It feels like this is it:
Trump asks Supreme Court to weigh in on review of classified documents seized from Mar-a-Lago This is where Trump succeeds or fails in his attempt to take over the country. If the court sides with him, he will have essentially achieved full impunity.

Jan. 6 Capitol riot committee subpoenas former President Donald Trump
I think the midterms are the next big test. If the Democrats lose the House, then that's the end of the probe, the stage will be set for the next attempt.

I suspect the testimony at this point is less important, it's more an opportunity for the panel to highlight everything they've pulled together so far. Evidence sufficiently significant they feel they can justify subpoenaing the former president.

What would be the point in pulling him in if they're not thinking they're going to get anything?
Even with the political capital backing the committee, to just do that to prove they could would burn a pointless amount of leverage.

I mean... what?
Yes Jan 6th shouldn't have been the wake-up call if they were actually genuinely giving a shit about the US, there was WAY too many clues before that. But also what a fucking retarded level of nosebaggery. I kinda hope this "investigation" does go ahead and highlights everyone involved for the shitbags they are.

It's possible the election results are the wake-up call the GOP might heed. If they take the House, but leave the Jan 6th committee intact, we'll know.

So the orange man is running again eh?
If he loses in 2024 - he'll do doubt shout corruption again at the top of his lungs, and then American Civil War 2.0 will happen. Unless he happens to lose to DeSantis (if he ends up running) then it might not be so bad. Either way, bring popcorn a plenty coz it's gonna be a hell of a show. |

Since the mid term results, I think many conservative US citizens have realized that Republicans aligning themselves with Trump is the worst thing they could be doing right now.
So many Trump aligned Republicans failed miserably last week, and it's clear as day to everyone but MAGA zealots.

Prediction: charges will be dropped or there will be a mistrial; Trump will claim victory; Trump will be named GOP nominee and win re-election as President of the United States

Prediction: Conviction and non-custodial sentence. Each side of the rend that is US politics will use it to amplify what's already maxed out, any remaining middle is left reeling from overload.
However it goes, there's no scenario that Trump's supporters can't use to amplify their signal. What won't change is the cluster-fuck that the GOP presidential nomination is winding up to be. It's ocean madness territory.

"If it can happen to me, it can happen to you!" as if being held to the same standard as everyone else is such a terrible thing. If it can happen to us, it should be happening to him.
If I ran for public office, setup shell companies to funnel campaign funds as hush money for porn stars and bellhops who have dirt on me that could hurt my campaign, falsified business documents, and submitted those falsified business documents to government agencies, then absolutely, it can happen to me. He's not in trouble for the campaign finance crimes, it's for the shell company business document submitted to the state of New York which concealed that crime. So far they aren't even charging him for the campaign finance part of this shit. It's literally 34 counts of lying on official business records.

Yeah, i wouldn't think that trump will get a second term... Biden didn't get the most votes ever because he's a great president... he got the most votes because people didn't want another trump term. It's possible this level of never trumpism won't be repeated, but if it looks like he's getting close, i'd expect to see at least as many votes for Biden as last election, if not more!

I wonder if Hillary losing scuppered some of the Dems' longer term leadership plans? They don't really seem to have any obvious candidate.
Harris isn't going to pull anyone away from the GOP, nor Warren. Sanders is old too. Could Cuomo appeal to some of the Republican middle? Cory Booker is the right age, but maybe not enough clout?

Neither side has a viable candidate.
It's yet again going to be a choice between a turd sandwich or a giant douche. Harris hasn't done anything at all about building her brand, so she's out Warren and Sanders are too left for DNC and will never get picked. AOC's got a great brand, but needs 20 years experience. DeSantis is the Default right now, spending more time kissing babies in swing states than in his own state that very much needs representation right now, Pence and Pompeo will probably take a shot too, but none makes them more Presidential than any of the others. Cruz might go again. At this point I'd be glad to see Mitt Romney back for the right.
