What a rambling, unfiltered mess. Awesome. The press love that they get this kind of direct access and dialog with the President. The next presidential candidates will have a hard time if they try to convince people it is best to lead from behind a filter of PR, social media, and eloquent platitudes in place of raw thought.
Unfortunately, a president usually only gets their "fuck you" money AFTER they have been president and AFTER it matters when they receive their book deals, and get paid $500,000 to just turn up. Equally unfortunately, some people get their "fuck you" money AFTER their brain has turned to mush. |

Nobody gets to be president until well after they've gotten their "fuck you" money (which is a great Talebism).

I am onto Anti-fragile now I learned that I am Robust, and far from Anti-fragile. But at least I'm not fragile.
I get you're point that you do have to be filthy rich to attend Bohemian Grove and do all that Eyes Wide Shut stuff before you announce you're running for President...However, if it's money from campaign donations, big pharma, and lobbyists, then it's not true "fuck you" money. There's a debt that gets repaid in policy, war, tax relief, or whatever. |

Looks like Kavanaugh is going to be a yes!
51-49 to advance the vote to a final vote.

The Republicans have got to get slaughtered over this in the midterms. Otherwise it's going to really start feeling like I'm watching the Brown Shirts rise to power.

Unfortunately the backlash is from something he’s accused of, not something he is guilty of.
The Dems didn’t want to make the public whoo-hah about Kavanaugh’s record on “advanced interrogation” or perjury because when it’s their guy in power those things are good for business. Better to go for the slam dunk, career-ending move du jour. Ask no questions, just rage. |

It's also how he's responding to the accusations and how that reflects his suitability or lack thereof for such a significant position in the future of the US.

I think that's a red herring.
The closer for that article wants to nail the point home. Quote:
Was it on life support as far as the public is concerned? Absolutely. Did it matter? No. Current split of the senate: Republicans control 51 seats and Democrats have 49 (including two independents who caucus with Democrats). Vote tally: 50-48 in favor. Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska announced that she would have voted no, but withdrew her vote as a courtesy to Senator Steve Daines of Montana. Mr. Daines, who would have voted yes, was attending his daughter’s wedding. Senator Joe Manchin III of West Virginia was the only Democrat to vote yes. He's up for reelection in a red state. Every voting Republican voted yes. Every voting Democrat other than one, voted no. His nomination was never on life support because everyone there had already made up their minds, and it was entirely political.

Religion, racism and nationalism. The triple threat.
I suspect it's a brittle alloy however, despite its apparent strength right now.

Not now that Trump got Kavanaugh on the SC. That's locked in big business funding of politics and Christian conservative constitutional interpretations for a generation.

Clintons have agreed that everything they touch turns to shit, they will not be heading up any campaigns for the mid-term elections. With this move, the Democrats might actually get some votes! ... that is if their campaign involves more than telling voters they are stupid dumb fucks if they vote for the other team. But once the elections are over, the speaking tours will resume at $750 per head. You gotta pay to be played. Last edited by Nich : 10th October 2018 at 17:49. |

HRC gave up her security clearance, along with five of her "researcher" buddies
If you know you're going to be fired, it's best to resign. If you know you're going to have your clearance removed, it's best to give it up voluntarily? Rich and powerful becoming less powerful? Soon I expect they won't be as rich either.

Well one out of 2 is better than nothing.
But I worry that the Rep still hold the senate and can start getting their choice for lifelong jobs. The next 2 years are just going to be shit. We voted to do this, but the senate said no Trump wanted to do this, but the house said no |

They can initiate investigations, the Senate can bury them.
Meh. I was trying to work out why the Democrats taking back the house felt like such a disappointment, and Ed at Ginandtacos summed it up. The fact that the midterms were even close reveals that half of the American electorate has taken a look at the past 2 years and decided that that's the way they like it. Trump getting elected was a glitch, a one-in-a-million perfect storm. But these election results show how America really is, and that means America is 50% white-supremacist misogynist arseholes. |

Trump didn't mess around with firing Sessions. The very second the midterms were out of the picture.
