Typical Labour anti-democratic behaviour tbh.

They need to start by reigning in MPs who say stupid shit on social media. Now, naturally they want to extend that to anybody loosely affiliated with the Labour Party but the MPs themselves say a lot of retarded shit on social media. Example, calling Paula Bennett bitchy for saying "Zip it, sweetie." Genious! Fight fire with fire, that's what I always say!

Also hilarious, someone asked Clare Curran on Twitter where they could find Labour's ICT policy. She provided a link to the policy... a link to a copy of the policy hosted by CAMERON SLATER from when he leaked it before Clare Curran had released it! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAHAAFUCKINGAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA YOU USELESS FUCKING SHIT! Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Labour's ICT spokesperson!

Yeah... Labour... ICT... social medias... better sort out your own MPs before you worry about party members.

Maybe he's just ahead of his time? Consumer devices with the capacity the manufacture complex compounds may not be that radical a concept... in maybe 20-50 years time.

Weapons sure, we've seen the printable guns, and those will only get better - but drugs? That seems a little more specific in terms of what a 3Dprinter has available to it as raw material. And if we're so good (sarcastic, we're actually rubbish) at stopping ContacNT at the border, why would what precursor LSD needs be any different? Seems more like old-rich-white-folk scare-mongering because the *real* issue with 3D printers is we're already used to the idea of piracy - image being able to pirate... Anything.

Pretty sure I've read about machines of this nature. Whether they're still a dream or people are working on them, don't really know. But Maurice can fret when these machines are actually available.

Anyway, you can ban them or whatevs, but at some point the technology will be cheap enough that people can have them in their home - which will be the ultimate goal home dispensary. But before then people will be hacking them up, Maker Bot style. The question is how people get a hold of the constituent ingredients for their drug making.

Oh yeah, here's some articles along the lines of what I saw.

http://www.popsci.com/science/articl...page-view=true
http://www.vice.com/read/in-the-futu...l-be-a-printer

Quick scan: this shit is still in the dreaming stages. Printable guns will still be an issue, but it's already illegal to possess certain firearms without the requisite license. It'll be illegal to possess 3D printed firearms. As Maurice points out, it's a border question: instead of smuggling firearms, people will print them.

Yep - various governments around the world, and in particular the USA, are worrying about how close it is to being possible to print drugs.

For something like this the worry and planning needs to come during the science fiction phase because the implications for society are profound.

If a replicator can spit out Ecstasy then it can spit out Vitamin C, RU486, Viagra, or patented antivirals.

Extremely far away from a technical perspective. Constructing specific individual, stable molecules? Even printers that work on the nano-scale don't even come close. The precursor for LSD in this context would be atoms of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen.

What, you seriously don't understand why Mediaworks ran into problems? Surely you don't believe Curran's line about it being Sky's fault, do you? I mean, I could explain it to you but it would be a waste of time since it's your policy to disbelieve and disagree with everything I say and then make up some lies.

Anyway...

WhaleOil has some great tweets re Curran:

We can blame Rupert Murdoch, right? I mean, he has nothing to do with Sky anymore but little things like facts don't matter. John Key looking out for his rich mates again, doing dirty back room deals because Mediaworks was too left in it's reporting!

I don't know why I bother, but I'll bite. I don't have an 'insight' I only have What Happened. I hope you're not too disappointed with the unvarnished truth.

Sky has nothing to do with Mediaworks going into receivership. It wasn't anything to do with their (Mediaworks) ratings. It wasn't anything to do with how Mediaworks is being managed. It sure as hell isn't anything to do with Sky being meanies. It's all to do with Ironbridge's leveraged buyout of Mediaworks prior to the GFC for a huge sum of money. Mediaworks got saddled with a debt that ended up being $700 million odd dollars. Mediaworks just couldn't service that debt, hence receivership. Sky TV has nothing at all to do with Mediaworks being burdened with the debt that Ironbridge used to buy Mediaworks! Regulation of Sky TV would have done jack shit to help Mediaworks. Hell, Mediaworks has a dozen radio stations. Sky doesn't even compete with Mediaworks in radio!

Without the debt, Mediaworks (at least its television) actually does okay as a business.

All of this should be painfully fucking obvious to Clare Curran. That's why she is being mocked so hard. I can't work out if she truly does not understand why Mediaworks is in receivership or if she is just pretending not to so that she can bang the 'Sky TV is hencewhymonopoly' drum. I get that hating on Sky is her favourite stump speech and she'll try to bring it up on any occasion. But, holy shit, try to do it intelligently.

Curran is so incompetent with her portfolio it's just not funny. I'll conclude with this quote from a commenter on WOBH:

Quote:
To the best of my knowledge we've never had a Broadcasting Minister / spokesperson who'd come closer to broadcasting than being interviewed on it, but none were *this* far out of their depth.

NZG has better reporting that the Herald IMO.

Basically it sounds like MediaWorks got grifted by some investment organisation who I assume is laughing all the way to the bank? What's Curran's involvement beyond ignorant comments?

Sounds like they got Bain Capital'd. Not Bain itself, but Ironbridge seems to have used that buyout-debt-restructure model.

That's exactly what I thought, the whole "used loan money to buy company, then make company pay off loan, which it can't, until it fails. Pocket fees." thing.

No involvement whatsoever, as far as anyone can tell. She's standing on the sidelines, commentating on a spectacle she just doesn't understand.

The reports I've seen suggest that Ironbridge has taken a bit of a hit from all this as well.

Ripped straight from the pages of Whale Oil:

Quote:
Clare Curran is the gift that just keeps on giving. Just when you think she can’t get any dumber she comes out and proves us wrong.

The tip line has produced an absolute gem which shows why the ICT sector should be crapping themselves if Curran ever gets the portfolio.

During Radio New Zealand’s financial review appearance Clare Curran showed what a techtard she is.

This transcript exert below is brilliant. RNZ chief executive Peter Cavanagh did well not to start pissing himself laughing.

Jonathan Young: I listen to your programmes every day of the week through my iPad. I don’t use my radio anymore except as an alarm.

Clare Curran: Actually, I just wanted to wave it at you because it is such a great innovation, the app, and I have listened – I used it when I was in the States last year, and it was amazing to be there and to hear the quality of the voice coming through. It’s fantastic. The only criticism I would have of it, and I’m interested to know if this is happening to other people, is that it cuts off. It cuts out after a certain amount of time, and then you’ve got to stick it back on again. So there’s some sort of glitch, but I don’t think it’s just my iPhone.

Peter Cavanagh: Can I respond to that one? Are you mobile at the time you’re using it?

Clare Curran: Sometimes not. So you’ve got to walk around with it to keep it going, is that the answer?

Peter Cavanagh: No, no, no. We’re not aware of any bugs in the iPhone application itself, but we certainly have had reports—and I’ve experienced this myself, listening, when I’ve been out walking. But as you move you move from one reception area to another, and sometimes when you change reception areas it cuts out and then will cut back in again.

Just in case you missed it, Curran was actually asking if you have to be continually walking round to ensure the app works properly!

I couldn’t make this up.

I bet she experiences loads of Chair to Keyboard interface problems.
