Picked up one of these a month or so back (sale!). Dustys comments are accurate. Hardware is good, its become the workhorse tablet of choice. Stylus is great.

Pity about the software. No confidence in MS to improve on this front esp if theyre restablishing an outdated desktop mode and are not pushing metro. (metro office? even?).

Having used it I feel theres a market for a tablet for a more mature UI (plus 12/13 inch plz) but it feels like we're back pre-iPhone territory, waiting for Apple to release the right OS/Hardware that is lighter, faster, better, with devs supporting it.

Surface Pro 2 actually looking quite decent in terms of specs. Still over $1k though (hearsay).

Surface Pro is hardly any different from the 2 except for the doubled price tag

Will be the Surface Pro 3

12" Screen and i3, i5 and i7 CPU's.

4GB or 8GB of RAM

128GB to 512GB SSD

New Kickstand Design with a wide range of locking points

Better design for keyboard attach.

Otherwise not much different.

But this version has an advertisement with a dubstep soundtrack featuring synthy BWAAAARRRRM sounds. I know the last one did too, but this one has different BWAAAARRRRM sounds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t7rSZT_77E

Fuck, I'm convinced! That ad just showed everything I do in my daily life and more importantly how this device can make it easier.

I have to lug around a Dell windows laptop (brick) for work, been looking at alternatives...some i7 ultrabooks around $1400 AUD, or a Macbook Air 11" for $1k...the only think is the resolution thats a bit low for my application..apart from that its a work of art.

Saw the Surface 3 news and got exited with the idea of being able leave my brick at home with an i7 version...not at $2200, they are fucking dreaming..

Wassis name from Penny-Arcade (Gabe?) was asked by MS to pimp their Surface tablet in some interview/ad. He looovveesss the thing. I mean for someone like him I can see why.

Comparing the Surface (Pro) with the iPad is like comparing a phone with a router. Why would you?

They sure have, great move.

Both tablets are targeted at completely different markets and are designed for very different tasks. Surface Pro 3 is aimed at people who want the portability of a tablet but want to be able to carry out tasks that require a machine with power that matches that of a laptop. The iPad Air, on the other hand, is more of a recreational toy, capable of running powerful apps but not a laptop replacement, particularly not for business users.

You're right, Apple owns the tablet toy market hands down.

They have finally nailed the form factor with the Surface 3 too. Looks sick.

I just cant get beyond the price point difference of a touchscreen ultrabook for the same specs is almost $700 AUD cheaper than the Pro 3....If they were around the $1500 mark I'd probably be pre-ordering one today.

Margin? They're merely adding in the price of all the unsold Surface 1 & 2's

if they were $1500 for surface 3, I would buy one in an instant with it's ability to use wacom pens. An ultra portable art table would be simply amazing.

It staggers belief they would give Gabe a mid spec i5 if they wanted him to say nice things about the product, especially as his main gripes seemed to focus on stutter and performance..

they need to cut their losses with that rubbish, put it down to some bad business decisions and write it off

They have a genuine opportunity to steal a couple points of market share with this sucker if it was actually affordable

Surface: pretty good as a laptop
Meh as a workstation
Fucking awful as a tablet

I have more sleep/wake problems with my surface in a day than in an average year of iMac or MacBook.

Have you tried connecting it to multiple external screens when docked? That and the randomness of not detecting them is a special kind of pain.

Yeah I hate the Pro's, done with them a long time ago now. I love my Surface Book, no docking issues, no sleep/wake issues.

My favourite part of using a Surface Pro is having to reboot it every time I plug anything into it... or remove anything that was already plugged in to it....

My current salaryman gig is at an eat-own-dogfood MS partner. When I said to the boss "hey can I have a Macbook" he looked at me like I'd said I wanted to eat babies at my desk.

Well, we do have lots of spare time to waste on such frivolous activities, seeing as how 50% of the work day isn't taken up with rebooting our computers to get USB devices to work.

Retired my OG Pro. Bit of a brick, short battery life, crappy keyboard karked it ages ago. Useless power switch, but still runs 10 pretty well. Never fulfilled its stylus potential, and is still _very_average as a tablet. Makes me wonder who the device is really for and why you would get one over a laptop.

Both Affinity have (and Adobe will by the looks) ignored the device for tablet specific apps. Having said that I still love the og stylus > apple pencil 2.

Surface revenue grew 21 percent year over year, up to $1.3 billion and likely reflecting demand for a range of Surface hardware
