Pretty legit question. We caught on that our new land lady didn't lodge as we didn't receive that letter, so we got to query it and make sure she did. She had a series of reasons(never received form from us[was attached to lease agreement we signed -_-], had run out of cheques and they don't do Internet depositing, didn't really know how to lodge it as she'd never had to before with any other tenants), which got us wondering if she hasn't so that no govt dept had a record she was renting out, so she could avoid paying tax.

IT was so long ago, I can't remember what I did or didn't do or say, whether I gave a shit or what. My actions are completely moot though, seeing as I don't have a legal obligation to do anything. Second thing: I'm not complaining about the situation. You'll note this is the Random Thoughts thread and not the GMG thread.

Now here's where it gets tricky for the likes of verve_rat. A landlord not correctly lodging the bond is not entirely a negative for the tenants. When a landlord fails to fulfil one of their most important legal obligations, they've pretty much lost any chance of getting anywhere with the Tenancy Tribunal. They've shot themselves in both feet. Personally, I've got all my bond back and the flatmate has most of his back. For my flatmate it's a decision of whether he can be fucked fighting to get his bond remainder back. The landlord seems to be scared of ending up in the tribunal because she knows she'll be fucked.

So if you're not skim reading, you'll understand why it doesn't matter what inquiries I might have made. I haven't forfeited any rights; the landlord is in a losing position.

I mean, shyeah, maybe if you have a deadbeat landlord or something but I live in Albany for fuck's sake.

I think we were both just questioning that it seemed odd you only noticed when you left, and not at the beginning of the tenancy. But fair enough - I don't dispute it's fucked things for the landlord.

I wasn't bragging. I was reflecting on how unexpected things can happen. I had promised her a laptop at some stage (her older sister has one) and mathletics on the iPad is a bit lacking (not all of the activities have been converted to tablet form) and I'm not sharing my iMac so the solution just happened.
