Any thoughts about updating to 1.17.1?

Only possible from my view is if people are particularly hungry for powdered snow as it doesn't spawn naturally - but that's just a case of putting out a tonne of cauldrons more than anything. Same-same just slightly quicker in 1.17.1

Frankly I don't see any of us making a zombie farm to farm copper, though I guess we could?

I just updated it. the host suggested a fresh install, but I said nah fuck it.

Dude, just break the lectern and place it again.

Meanwhile, bring emeralds, potatoes, pumpkins, sticks, iron and paper and come use some of my villagers. Have Fortune III, Looting III, Mending, Silk Touch and a couple other less useful (though the Silk Touch dude also has Curse of Binding for great pranking).

Don't have Efficiency or Unbreaking librarians yet, but will get that at some point, and need to completely redo the villager trading hall too for zombification, but eh.

MHG is having trouble with "flying" when using a boat on an ice-path missing every 2nd block. Can you tweak?

Aah. Right - have fun, there are a few high res packs out there over the 16x16 defaults, but from going down that rabbit-hole myself previously I now just use the default textures.

A good guideline for building is even if you build it for a given texture pack, you'll still want it looking good for the vanilla pack - the greater majority of players use vanilla.

However there's two packs I would consider myself:
Faithful a 32x32 pack that's been updated for years https://resource-pack.com/faithful-1-17-32x/
Steven's Traditional 64x64 contemporary pack, slightly tweaked from Vanilla, but again mostly quite faithful. https://www.minecraftforum.net/forum...ithful-default

I tend to stay away from the 256x and high packs - they don't really add anything unless you're still.

Another option is install Optifine or one of the other options that allows deployable shaders, and get one of the pretty spectacular shader packs that are out there. Awesome for doing the "wow! Pretty!!" but pretty pants for actual gameplay IMO.

Small word of warning though: Don't mix packs of various resolutions. I don't know if it does anymore, but it used to make the game client unstable.

You know I dont see a max size in storage anywhere, we running with enough RAM to have about 10 people online at a time, and we dont have that, im often on solo because of my work/study schedule at present.

What actually uses resources? I'm guessing it only generates the map for areas you visit? I suppose I could research this myself, it's just a vanilla server, right?

Things can be trimmed down using WorldEdit - there's tricks that can be done to trim things that have been moved through but not altered, or have had only minimal amounts of alteration (such as only dirt blocks and torches placed, for example)

I don't know the actual HOW of it yet, just that it's done with WorldEdit as a script, offline, then reuploaded to the server.

However to save server resources: Lightspeed, do you know where you're actually going, or are you just wanting to explore? If it's the former, get a diamond pickaxe, 10 (or 14 if feeling compelled to be completionist) Obsidian, and go there via the nether portal at your base - just remember to divide the X and Z coordinates by 8 to get to the right location.

Going through the nether saves resource due to simply not needing to load as many chunks for the same distance.

I've not tackled an Ocean Monument yet. It's on my To Do list, not a priority yet though - need a LOT more sand/gravel to turn one into a farm.

I think I have like, 3 pris. crystals and 2 shards from desert temple & sunken wreck raiding.
