Played the demo a few weeks ago (got access via my GoW Collectors Edition). Its awesome, and an early beta build too (unless the demo is different from the one I DL'd) so I have high hopes it will be as awesome as the first 2.

I never owned a PS2 so had never played GoW before. I was going to pick up the trilogy set, but at $300 and no other release of Gow 1 and 2 in NZ I decided to import the Collection. Fuck me I cant believe it took me so long to get it for my PS3. Play Asia ftw. $68 including postage

GoW 1 & 2 were fuken awesome on the ps2
They're the only games I've ever played through more than twice and only games I've ever clocked on insane mode more than once

I don't own a ps3, but I'm bloody tempted to get one just for the GoW collection

This is one of the few games I'm going to buy day one, without having played any of them, or demos, purely because everyone I know who's played the others rave about how awesome they are.

This pretty much. I've also heard (from people who's opinions i respect) that the opening 30 minutes (all they've played) is the greatest gaming experience of all time and something for which we are "not prepared".

So yeah, day one

I must be living under a rock because until I saw the trailer for GOW3 I'd never even HEARD of the first two games ever.

Don't blame you. I had heard of them but never thought anything of them until recently. The last one was released in 2007, which is a big gap these days - no wonder you had not heard of them.

Just played the demo last night, that was friggin' cool :P I'm a little slow at picking up the controls, I hate it when they tell you how to do the controls right in the middle of being attacked by a horde of bad guys! I LOVED the violence, talk about gratuitous?!!

3 and a half hours in (would be more but work tomorrow, need sleep). Classic God of War here, Kratos is destroying everything in his path.

go go 500 buckets of blood

I've never played the GoW series before and despite some misgivings about the demo, I went and bought the full game. Over the last couple of years, I've pretty much liked every single major PS3 exclusive release. Not this one.

If the start is meant to be the best part of the game as many reviewers have said, I'd better just rush through this and put this on Trademe to recover as much of the $99 I paid as possible. The boss fights have been predictable, boring and just plain not fun. Unless things change quickly, this might be the worst PS3 game in my collection.

Odd. Much like everyone else I love it. I too am new to the GOW franchise having bought GOW Collection recently. I was wary of the series as I wasnt really an action console gamer, but the fight mechanics are awesome. You can eather button mash or really pull out some big combos through practice and multple weapon/magic combinations.

Then again each to their own. I hate FFXIII and I am in the minority. Shame you dont like it. For me best $80 i've spent in a while (Metro 2033 is also a lot of fun).

pretty much this, every gamer has their own likes and dislikes. My friends thought I was insane when I sat there and maxed out 15 characters to level 9999 in Disgaea 3 (need to go get all the trophies for that at some point, did most of it pre trophy patch) and didn't find what I was doing remotely fun.

On the first boss, I personally feel Gow2's Colossus of Rhodes was more epic.

Actually yeah - III's opening was epic but the Collossus was a standout.

Love how it feels like I've stepped straight from II into III it all feels very familiar and that's a good thing.

Kratos is still a prick. Then again so is everyone else

Yeah look I'm gonna go right ahead and agree with everyone except cyc , never played GoW, and this is just epic. The only downside I have so far is that I do feel like I really should have played the first two, it does feel like a continuation.

Just love the violence, gutting a centaur

I am I'm definitely in the minority here but just can't get myself to like this game. The whole game just screams of ugliness, not in the sense that the graphics aren't technically amazing but in the sense that I am just "stylistically incompatible" with the game. The voices of Kratos and the first titan just grate the living daylights out of mine, especially Kratos' "I want to sound like I-haven't-had-a-shit-for-five-days-and-I'm-that-constipated" voice. The jumping and minor puzzles are predictable, boring and slows down the pace of the game and I find the boss fights so far extremely repetitive.

And I am not a mindless action/bashing game knocker. I thoroughly enjoyed the somewhat derided Heavenly Sword and in fact found that game much more appealling than GoW3.

Can't connect with the main character maybe? Kratos is an antihero after all, much like a lot of Vin Diesel characters.

Right just beat the game.

Basic sum up. Absolutely fantastic game. In respect to the GoW series, I'd rank it second behind Gow2.

Like Dazza suggested, I just can't "connect" with this game. In fact, I cannot take it anymore. A young relative has been wanting this for ages but apparently can't afford it -- I think I'll just gift it to him and make someone happy.

FWIW, I really enjoyed RE5. I sold that relatively quickly too but that was after absolutely grinding the shit out of it for about two weeks. I thought it was just so fun -- gaming can be a strange little thing.

I didn't like RE5 either but may give it a crack with the Move controller, quite liked Heavenly Sword (Kai needed more air time though), as for GoW III...

I'm finding it a pleasant surprise after having played the E3 demo, that had me a little bit worried but they have polished the game a lot since then. Lot of references to the first two games which while don't lock you out of what's going on, do make you feel you've missed something.

Lot of fun, very pretty (mostly), epic in scale and well paced. UI needs some extra work imo, do get a bit irritated with the dropping of button presses (opening chest, some jumps) and the voice, while okay with it now it reeked of Saturday morning cartoon overlord initially.

Overall for me it's a good to great game and enjoying it. Been quite spoilt over the last year with releases, but GoW III still manages to hold its own. Not disappointed, just a bit arse I got on board so late in the franchise's cycle.

about 8 hours into the game now, 243hit combo is my highest good times...

only thing I dislike is when you die (ie wasnt watching the screen and didnt hit r1 in time) you start almost exactly where you were, there is no penalty.
