Interesting series of facts:

Material on foreign nation’s nuclear capabilities seized at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago

Russia arrests top hypersonic research scientist in treason case

Quote:
A number of Russian scientists, soldiers and officials have been charged with treason in recent years after being accused of passing sensitive material to foreign countries.

This is mostly for the headline, but the substance is real lolz too:

It feels like this is it:

Trump asks Supreme Court to weigh in on review of classified documents seized from Mar-a-Lago

This is where Trump succeeds or fails in his attempt to take over the country. If the court sides with him, he will have essentially achieved full impunity.

Supreme Court denies Trump bid to void ruling in Mar-a-Lago raid documents case

Looks like there's still some legitimacy in the US justice system.

Jan. 6 Capitol riot committee subpoenas former President Donald Trump

I think the midterms are the next big test. If the Democrats lose the House, then that's the end of the probe, the stage will be set for the next attempt.

Related: Steve Bannon: Ex-Trump aide jailed for contempt of Congress

Quote:
Bannon, 68, was convicted in July on two counts - for refusing to provide either testimony or documents to a committee probing the 6 January 2021 riot at the US Capitol.

In a separate case, Bannon is also facing separate fraud, conspiracy and money laundering charges in New York after being accused of cheating donors to a fundraiser aimed at helping Mr Trump build a wall at the US-Mexico border.

He previously faced federal charges over the same allegations before being pardoned by Mr Trump (on his last day of Presidency).
Would rather go to jail than testify. Just innocent people things.

While Trump has the habit of spewing out stuff he shouldn't when under pressure, sometimes it's also just utter meaningless word-salad.

I think the committee are hoping for the former.

I suspect the testimony at this point is less important, it's more an opportunity for the panel to highlight everything they've pulled together so far. Evidence sufficiently significant they feel they can justify subpoenaing the former president.

What would be the point in pulling him in if they're not thinking they're going to get anything?

Even with the political capital backing the committee, to just do that to prove they could would burn a pointless amount of leverage.

Marjorie Taylor Greene says a GOP-led House will investigate companies that stopped donating to Republicans after the Capitol riot

Quote:
"You know what they did after January 6, Steve? They stopped donating. All the lobbyists, all the big corporations stopped donating to a whole bunch of my Republican colleagues that they used to donate to," Greene said.

"They said: 'Oh no, we can't support you because of the big lie,' or whatever they want to call it," she continued.

"There is going to be investigations coming," Greene added. "And there should be. There definitely should be, because the way corporations have conducted themselves, I've always called it corporate communism."

I mean... what?

Yes Jan 6th shouldn't have been the wake-up call if they were actually genuinely giving a shit about the US, there was WAY too many clues before that.

But also what a fucking retarded level of nosebaggery.

I kinda hope this "investigation" does go ahead and highlights everyone involved for the shitbags they are.

It's possible the election results are the wake-up call the GOP might heed. If they take the House, but leave the Jan 6th committee intact, we'll know.

So the orange man is running again eh?

If he loses in 2024 - he'll do doubt shout corruption again at the top of his lungs, and then American Civil War 2.0 will happen.
Unless he happens to lose to DeSantis (if he ends up running) then it might not be so bad.

Either way, bring popcorn a plenty coz it's gonna be a hell of a show.

Since the mid term results, I think many conservative US citizens have realized that Republicans aligning themselves with Trump is the worst thing they could be doing right now.

So many Trump aligned Republicans failed miserably last week, and it's clear as day to everyone but MAGA zealots.

Trump is claiming that he's going to be arrested on Tuesday. I wonder if he's seen all the support Imran Khan is getting in the face of being arrested, sees an opportunity to get his support out on the street?

Prediction: Conviction and non-custodial sentence. Each side of the rend that is US politics will use it to amplify what's already maxed out, any remaining middle is left reeling from overload.

However it goes, there's no scenario that Trump's supporters can't use to amplify their signal.

What won't change is the cluster-fuck that the GOP presidential nomination is winding up to be. It's ocean madness territory.

"If it can happen to me, it can happen to you!" as if being held to the same standard as everyone else is such a terrible thing. If it can happen to us, it should be happening to him.

If I ran for public office, setup shell companies to funnel campaign funds as hush money for porn stars and bellhops who have dirt on me that could hurt my campaign, falsified business documents, and submitted those falsified business documents to government agencies, then absolutely, it can happen to me.

He's not in trouble for the campaign finance crimes, it's for the shell company business document submitted to the state of New York which concealed that crime. So far they aren't even charging him for the campaign finance part of this shit. It's literally 34 counts of lying on official business records.

^^ And if that works, the subsequent charges in other jurisdictions end up with sentence multipliers or something.

And slimy that his kid starts going off on the socials about the Judge's daughter - surely that's a paddlin'.

Prediction: All of this but he's burnt enough trust in the populis that over 20% of even the republican-identifying voters think the indictment is justified and he's a 2x looser at going for prez.

Nah, most of them will fall back in line with the status quo, with the thinking they would rather Trump than Democrats.

Yeah, i wouldn't think that trump will get a second term... Biden didn't get the most votes ever because he's a great president... he got the most votes because people didn't want another trump term. It's possible this level of never trumpism won't be repeated, but if it looks like he's getting close, i'd expect to see at least as many votes for Biden as last election, if not more!

I wonder if Hillary losing scuppered some of the Dems' longer term leadership plans? They don't really seem to have any obvious candidate.

Harris isn't going to pull anyone away from the GOP, nor Warren. Sanders is old too. Could Cuomo appeal to some of the Republican middle? Cory Booker is the right age, but maybe not enough clout?

Neither side has a viable candidate.

It's yet again going to be a choice between a turd sandwich or a giant douche.

Harris hasn't done anything at all about building her brand, so she's out
Warren and Sanders are too left for DNC and will never get picked.
AOC's got a great brand, but needs 20 years experience.

DeSantis is the Default right now, spending more time kissing babies in swing states than in his own state that very much needs representation right now, Pence and Pompeo will probably take a shot too, but none makes them more Presidential than any of the others.
Cruz might go again.

At this point I'd be glad to see Mitt Romney back for the right.
