Urgent: Convert old VHS to .avi

Anyone able to convert an old VHS (about 7 minutes long) to a more modern format (eg .avi etc)?

Preferably this weekend (& thus in the (04) area).....

My folks got some old wedding footage converted from a reel to dvd at a camera store, cost them next to nothing.
Pop down your local mall, they can probably do it while you wait and put it on your pendrive for you.

From memory, Sony ones in VCR playback mode have bi-directional AV sockets - I managed to record from a sky decoder so I could watch a superbike race on a train once.
