Things I don't like: Hans haircut is not 70s enough. Yes, I know, timed has passed. But it just don't look right. No grey hair for Chewie? Fuck you, Chewie. Are you dying that fur? Weird TIE fighters. Ghey stormtrooper armour. "Chewie, we're home!" Cheesey dialogue. No more cheesey dialogue pls. Rolly droid Black guy (just kidding) Things I like: Chewie and Han. Wrecks of spaceships in the sand. Throwback shots of TIE pilots and snow speeder pilots.

Jesus, that's the side of my bedroom drawers circa 1977, right there. For years I was nagged by confusion as to why I had a picture of what looked like a rebel pilot fighting Darth Vader with a lightsabre. |

That sabre looks like the one Luke lost during the family reunion. Maybe that points to the cloning from the severed hand storyline?

IMAX adopts laser projection for new Star Wars
My immediate takeaway from this was holy shit Star Wars is next month. But the laser projection sounds neat too. Oblig Trig reference.

Mmm... Sacrilicious
|
First viewing I enjoyed it but was annoyed by the too many callbacks to the original trilogy. Second viewing those didn't annoy me as much and I was better able to enjoy it overall.
The death I saw coming but it still gave me the feels... Looking forward to the next one now |

Saw it last night and was disappointed. Its a remake of the original updated to include a black guy and a girl and of course a bigger death star.

I think I need to watch it again.
The scene where they plan the attack on the base annoyed me, it seemed a bit on the nose. |

As we progress from the hunt for the droid containing the secret info on the desert planet to the end battle at the planetary superweapon which is eventually defeated by a lone X-Wing flying down a tunnel and exploiting a glaring security vulnerability to blow shit up, it's obvious that JJ Abrams has new ideas and is taking Star Wars in a new direction

I loved it, great twists and nice homage to IV...it really does setup the whole trilogy to be something epic....

Don't get me wrong, I was a heartracing goosebumped fanboy from the first note of the opening fanfare, which was entirely predictable. I thought the story and locations relied too heavily on Star Wars, there's milking nostalgia and then there's humping nostalgia.
Thought the casting of the new leads was brilliant. They were great. Daisy Ridley, fwooooaaaar. Script was great. Nice to have some humour back in the Star Wars universe that isn't "MEESSA STEP IN DOO-DOO" Loved the return to "realistic-looking" shit instead of horrible shiny CG. Bit puzzled by Rey just sort of spontaneously teaching herself in hours all these Force powers that the Jedi supposedly train at for years, and the "what's in this box, oh it's a lightsabre, what a surprise" bit felt really forced. The bit with Han and Chewie on the freighter with the gangs and tentacle monsters was pointless and felt tacked on for no reason. Isaac's Poe felt wasted, as did Christie's Phasma, as did Fisher's Leia. Guess we'll see more in the next one. Doesn't feel right for a Star Wars movie to not open with the 20th Century Fox drum chorus and fanfare. But it felt like Star Wars. And even though it wasn't perfect, it was way better than I hoped it would be. |

Agree 100%
Cant wait to see it again, even though it's got some pretty gnarly flaws, it's just so good that it surpasses them. |

I agree very much so Ab, there were some wasted characters. Poe, Capt Phasma. I do expect these to be fleshed out in the coming movies though.
I dont mind that the story arc basically was EP IV, it really did a nice job of passing the baton to the new generation. The witty humor was a welcome addition to the universe, loved the 2 stormtroopers looking at each other and turning around when Kylo was having a tanty in the room. Not sure if I really liked having Ray being a proficient light saber user the first time she touched it when other Jedi practice from childhood..... Other than that I cant wait to see where the new trilogy goes, love the first installment of the redemption of Star Wars after the prequel fiasco |

there were no prequels |

Prequels? Yeah it'd be neat if there were some prequels for Star Wars, it's such a rich universe.

Thought it sucked balls. Nothing made any sense, felt like fan fiction. Kylo Ren was more emo Columbine shooter than Sith badass.

Those are some massive coat tail's he's riding there, and for whatever reason, he's attempting to forcefully deny the light inside himself. Anakin's fear and passion for protecting his family was what steered him towards the dark side. Kylo Ren just wants to be bad, but is far too immature for the legacy he wants to carve for himself. He's probably never had an equal in any lightsaber fight, and was using a really undisciplined and chaotic fighting style against Rey, who almost bet him in her first lightsaber fight ever. Maybe Kylo Ren left Luke's training before he got given a chance to build a proper lightsaber, hence his hastily made one using a fractured crystal, and uses it for its intimidation factor more than anything. It totally resonates the immaturity and chaotic nature of his Kylo Ren persona. Kylo's obviously very strong with the force (How cool was his freezing of a blaster shot), but hasn't fulfilled his potential. Rather than be the good guy trying not to let the darkness tempt him, he's the exact opposite. He's trying desperately hard to to a big bad like his granddaddy, and not let the light tempt him. He's not an established big bad, we're following the evolution of a villian here. At the moment he's nothing more than a bully with rich parents, depending on his name and reputation to get away with stealing everyone's lunch money, but gets scared the first time someone actually stands up to him. Oh, and Rey's totally a Kenobi. Calling it now. She's been told that Luke's not family, so she's not Skywalker, and I think it's be pretty poetic for a Kenobi to get Luke back on track.

The greatest achievement of The Force Awakens is to have completely erased the prequels. It's like they never happened. That "think of it like a comic" article pxpx linked to explains everything.
