It's official, we're in the twilight zone:
- Trump puts a moratorium on evictions and foreclosures - Trump proposes $1,000 per month to everyone. Democrats trying to block this one. - Proposes tax payers have part ownership of companies that get bailed out with taxpayers money - Public healthcare "medicare 4 all" Socialism is being proposed in US, and the biggest opposition is from congressional democrats! Insane. |

It's not $1k to everyone. It's a tax credit against 2020 taxes, almost a loan.
They're phased based on income too. If you earn over $75k, you don't get the full amount. And for some reason it's phased out at the bottom too. If you earn less than 23k, or 47k as a couple, you don't get the full amount either. source: https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020...00-checks.html Those are the reasons why the Dems are against it. They want a package for everyone, not just particular demographics.

This is the kind of insight and perspective I value:
https://www.aljazeera.com/programmes...210837661.html
I was impressed by the match between the issues raised in this thread and those discussed in the report.

Never been much of a fan of Al Jazeera personally. They're ultimately a mouthpiece for the House of Al Thani.

So the world takes a sick day. Can we afford paid leave? Well, of course we can. Yesterday we couldn't, but all of a sudden well actually, yes we can. Cause if we can't, shit's gonna get real for everyone real fast.
Now comes the surprise wellspring of money that was previously unaffordable, certainly not for ensuring a robust healthcare system. Reality and its damn liberal bias.

How about some sort of contingency tax on businesses based on them being able to cover all their costs for a month? Or compulsory pandemic insurance if that's a thing. For when this happens next time.

Australia and New Zealand governments dont have a disease control department. but after this, yes, they probably will put that in place along with a rainy day fund...first of all, we got to make sure there is a next time.
As far as herd immunity goes, we need ~80% of the population to get the disease to recover and be immune. Italy is the world leader to that 80% target, and they are at 1% currently. annnd they just reported 500 dead in last 24 hours, and already using military trucks as hearses. The other vaccine option is 12-18 months away. |

This is Italy, same type of video as seen from Iran and Wuhan. Then there's youtubers like this guy who gave his "expat opinion" from inside China, and drove to hospitals and funeral homes to show that they were NOT over crowded and death rates were normal. Fuck China. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6B...9M9MQoPhxbarpw |

Yeah... but given some of the states in Aussie are closing the internal state borders... Suffice to say that even if I were a selfish enough twat to fly, I wouldn't.

Greetings from Victoria lockdown:
- Third vege garden was planted on weekend - Chickens almost ready to lay eggs (but I think the cockatoos + magpies intimidate them too much) - Daily intake of Vit C, Vit D + Reishi, He Shou Wu, Cordyseps, Olive Leaf - Home gym setup to keep me sane - My salary job is to start in a week, but that may not be going ahead... we'll see. - My co-working office in Yackandandah is closed - Looking forward to having more time for piano practice, playing with synths, and bush walks. |

So what's an essential business again? I see the government has released some long documents, but who am I, some businessmen who goes around reading things? I don't think so.
The pressing question here is how long will coffee bean stocks hold up? Like, I feel like maybe that's what I need to panic buy.

Just got off a conference call - hard calls were made, and it seems that when the beans run out, the essential staff will just have to put up with instant. No man to come in and clean the machine.
To be honest, I expected more fire and brimstone for the end times. |

For some it will be the crucible that brings their family together, too.

At least in Melbourne it's rare you're more than about 1.5k from a green-space. Nice to get outdoors to get a little exercise while waving at people as you walk by them no closer than 2 meters. I've got a stainless steel chopstick I keep in my pocket that I use for pushing the buttons on the elevator in my apartment building.

I wonder how the drug supply chain is going to be impacted, both legal and otherwise. Good time to have a home brew set up/garden project.
