This stuff is gold. Can't wait to see how much of a twist Fox News put on it.

I'd love to know how much of that was scripted and how much was off-the-cuff. It's hard to tell with the transparent teleprompters and shit. But he's a phenomenal speaker. Obama makes you feel like you're listening to an strong lecturer; Romney, like you're listening to a robot built by advertising company; Bush II, like you're listening to someone who thinks that sounding like an idiot will make you like him; but Clinton makes you feel like he's your favourite uncle. You can't help but like the guy and he has that knack of making you feel like he's really speaking from the heart, even when you know that nobody speaks from the heart in this micromanaged theatre shit.
If only he wasn't such a fuckup as a human being I think he would go down as one of the USA's greatest Presidents. |

The parts he ad-libbed are in green. There's a lot of green. |

He'd make an excellent future National PM; although, the left in the US is still a long way right of where National is today and the current PM is a fair bit younger.

Having watched the speech and then read the annotated transcript, it's not so much what Clinton ad-libbed, or how much, but rather how it changed the appeal of the text. Little things, like prepending "Now," on to each of the later segments of the speech. Clinton has an incredible mixture of sheer intellectual horsepower - the guy's recall and ability to hold complex info in his head have always been amazing - and personal charisma. Not only is he a genius, you can't help but love the guy.
Then you remember that one of the uses to which he put this amazing mind was "it depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is", and you don't love him so much any more. And then he speaks again, and you do. |
