They won't hold up as critically acclaimed movies with incredible acting, dialogue, and character development, but I think it'd be worth watching from a pop culture relevancy perspective. Sci-Fi movies may as well be defined by "Before Star Wars" and "After Star Wars". You'll know most of the story beats and plot twists because they're so engrained in pop culture. Every second line is something you've probably heard 100 times.

Saltburn. Turned it off half way through. I'm all for artsy films that might take a while to ramp up but it was mind numbingly boring.

I met someone once that had never watched the original Starwars. Your names not Matt by any chance?

I was keen for some Viggo Mortensen, so I watched Green Book (2018).

I don't usually go for racially themed movies, they're too depressing or too close to home, but this was a really nice movie. Not a lot of violence or despair, not especially upbeat either. Just a nice movie.

I fell asleep a couple of times trying to get through it, glad I did...was kind of a creepy stalker version of The Royal Tenenbaums...

I thought it was a Brideshead Revisited / The Talented Mr Ripley mashup, algorithmically generated for the US Downton Abbey audience.

I thought the cinematography was awesome. But aside from being a bit fucked in the head, the plot was predicable AF. The only interesting but was right at the end when you see the detail of the different ways people were killed off... not worth watching for that.

Three levels:

Fucking amazing as a film. What a spectacle. One of the best concert films I've seen, right up there with bangers like Live After Death and Stop Making Sense. (Those mesh-network glowing bracelets that the whole crowd were wearing, what an amazing idea. Every person in the audience was part of the lighting rig.)

Fucking amazing as a performance. Just super slick polished delivery from everyone. Apparently the film is trimmed down from the length of an actual Swift concert, which according to Wikipedia is 44 songs over 3.5+hours. The fuck.

Swift herself, what a G. Audience in the palm of her hand the whole time, working her arse off and giving the customers what they paid for. And this is the thing that, selfishly, really struck me: in the songs where she plays guitar, she plays like a real guitar player. She holds the guitar like someone who plays one for a living, not like it's a prop from a music video that she has to mime with. She looks like a guitar player who is also singing.

Some of the songs were a bit emo teenage girl or minimalist electro pop for my tastes, but still... very impressed.

Ahh soo good seeing the imagery in my mind between the 1984 film and the books coming to life on the big screen even while watching details and chunks of the book being skipped over, which is of course to be expected.

I couldn't help wonder how someone that'd never read the books or seen the original film or TV series would be interpreting it or what they're missing out on.

The Outfit (2022) is pretty good. Moderate, consistent burn. Mark Rylance is good value.

Star Wars original trilogy if you treat them aka not too seriously, lower your critical thinking and expectations, are still alright. Get the Despecialised editions if you can.

Certainly better than the sugar-and-adhd fuelled mess that is Phantom Menace.

Got the Frankenstein vibes from the outset when she jumped into the river, but I did like da Foes makeup.

Yep, really enjoyed it Was up in Gladstone visiting on the weekend and was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the gold class of the lone cinema there. Given it was a midday show, there were no squawking brats or teenagers having conversations the whole way through the movie, no morons with rustling food packets, not a mobile phone in site, and the cinema was really clean, didn't smell old and moldy or like a pair of old gym shoes. A lot of Brisbane's big chain cinemas could seriously take a lesson or two from them.

Righto, found myself at a loose end, and despite Wazza's indications above, I persevered and saw it through to the end.

Yes, it is weird, possibly weirder than Asteroid City, but in a good way. And yes, Stone is constantly being reamed, or at least orally pleasured by a fellow Parisian whore.

Visually stunning, with the subtle steampunk influence offset by her quirky signature wardrobe that mirrors her character development. Fisheye and wide angle lenses interspersed with a voyeuristic pinhole look that I am still trying to work out (Initially I thought it was the PoV of one of the creatures, but it is used throughout).

Whilst I am unfamiliar with the source material, I tend to agree with the assertion by others that the titular "things" are indeed the many male suitors that are ironically stuck with a horned up baby brain through out, whilst Bella evolves into a genius medical exponent and able to continues 'Gods' work.

Also, Ruffalo almost shakes off the David Banner thing to be come, as he frrequently esposes of Bella, a right cunt.
