I don't live in Epsom, Tauranga, Ohariu-Belmot or Wigram and I'm not on the Maori roll. My electorate vote has absolutely no bearing on the make-up of government at all, that's all done by the proportional section of the vote - the only real difference is if number 52 makes it in for National, or number 60 (the nat mp for my area) bumps them off.

Though Nat's no 52 has a cute name, same as that girl in Talladega Nights, so maybe I should vote to keep Franks out.

Ms Dalziel sent door knockers around last week, and stood outside the pub and spoke to the masses (by that I mean one timid woman who stayed four houses back) - she ended up coming into the pub to say "Hello" to the four of us that didn't hide in the pokie room, then drove off in her token selfdrive Hybrid - token because it was covered in cobwebs - I don't think it gets out much.

It's not really enough to sway me to the red side, although she is in a pretty safe seat, so her majority will be interesting.

Haven't heard jack shit from the rest of them. In actual fact, the most campaigning in general seems to be coming from the Greens, but Welly Central has traditionally been quite symapathetic to them. Bloody students!

For anyone that is interested - they'll be interviewing candidates on Active between 8-9 every morning up to the election. They had the ACT rep on this morning, and that was quite interesting (she did a helluva lot better than I thought she would) and the Kiwi party, although I didn't hear them (nor did care to).

Didn't make it to the Hutt South 'meet the candidates' thing tonight, but if Trevor Mallard doesn't re-win Hutt South, something's gone terribly wrong with the countries stereotypes.

The posters near me for National are all just John Key's face wanting my party vote, no mention of wanting the electorate. I guess everyone else isn't bothering contesting.

The Greens however have been doing maaaad campaigning. Many times I've had pamphlets thrust at me by supporters at the Train station, and every 3rd bus seems to have an ad for them. No other party seems to be trying to do anything beyond mailing me stuff.

The Green candidate came knock on my door and talked about the Green party and... nothing else. They probably use the electorate candidate to gain exposure.

The Labour candidate organized a meeting on our street and I didn't go because I got better things to do (like playing Fallout 3, wait did I say that out loud?). I have no idea if he talked about local issues but I heard the turnout is ok. That guy only cares because the election is coming, not because he is involved in the community. It is a trend that the party just airlift some nobody from nowhere and expect me to vote for him/her.

The incumbent National MP sent a letter saying pretty much zero about his achievement as a local MP. Either he conveniently forget to boast his record, or he is not as competent local MP as he thinks he is.

As far as I can see, local MP should understand local issues and represent our electorate in parliament. So far no one actually presented reason for me to vote for him/her for THAT particular purpose.

I told them I had cut my power bill by 100%, I thought he was going to ejaculate on the spot. He asked how. I told him our power box died and it took the power company over a month to fix and we didn't get a bill for it. Therefore saving 100%.

I think I made him cry.

I'm on the maori role in Ikaroa-Rawhiti and basically have 2 people to choose from. The labour rep is number 4 on the party list so gets in no matter what.

Thinking about voting for the Maori party candidate, that way I might end up with 3 people in parliament for my electorate and hopefully one of them will be useful.
