The pay increase is the responsibility of the Remuneration Authority. But you'd realise that if you read the article.
Personally I'd be happy if MPs salaries were tripled or quadrupled. |

I would make some quip about capitalist scum National showing their true colours about being in it for the money, but MPs always give themselves pay rises, whoever it is.

Isn't John Key going to give away his salary to charity?

Did you read the article? He doesn't actually decide if he gets a raise or not "The annual pay increase - decided by the Remuneration Authority".
Most companies give a yearly raise in relation to inflation, I know I got one last month. People need to get over the election already. Clark had several pay rises as well and again they were set by the Remuneration Authority, not by herself. |

didnt Key stand for less spending on government bureaucracy?
surely he should be appalled by this increase and take steps to change the system so it doesnt happen again, lol btw, I also think MP's should be paid more especially good ones like Sue Bradford.

ahahahahaha
Did you really think the Prime Minister decides his own pay scale? Righto. |
20th November 2008, 16:24 | #16 |
|
Of course they do. Just like the CEO of a company gets to decide their own salary.

I agree with a massive pay rise for NZ top.
This will attract those that can actually run a huge company, ahem small country, striving to run NZ, ahem huge company, and be remunerated as such. Not a piss ass wage currently handed out to 'NZ top'... embarrassing. Compare the PM's wage to the top banks CEO's wage. Mr bank CEO weekly wage $45,000.000. Zero responsibility when it comes to the crunch. Mr PM gets buggar all with the ultimate responsibility. At least NZ now gets a leader who values money, knows where it comes from, respects earning it and enjoys the benefits of hard earned cash. About bloody time. |

i would prefer my prime minister to be attracted to the position by something other than the desire for financial compensation.
something like, i dunno, total unrestricted power and/or space vaginas. |

best thing I have seen was an old herald article chronicling Lockwood Smiths smile from teh time he entered parliament. It started off as the Donny Osmond special and went down hill from there. Now he looks like he is trying to hide a set of choppers like Helen Clark
