Whats the deal with the referendum?

I'm a noob at politics but surely if MMP is such a concern as to spark up a referendum on it I'm inclined to do some research... what better place then a internet forum right? Anyone wish to enlighten me?

It's only really a concern to National because they believe that MMP favours the left.

I like Will and Kate, don't get me wrong but I couldn't give two fucks about the kiss on the balcony or Pippa. I was watching the Breakers. Wouldn't it be nice to be done with the UK Monarchy and be independant before the World Cup? Perhaps vote in a Monarchy of our one, NZ Model syles, just for show but I like castles.

As Tax payers we pay for the upkeep of the governer general I believe, but turfing him and the Queen out would just result in another head of state that we'd probably end up paying more for.
