CNN reported on the boat fire as well, including how a New Zealand James Bond at the helm of the speed boat put out the fire.

This is news? I mean, nice story, but...oh, it's the Herald. Never mind.

Well yes ... I would consider that news worthy. A ferry captain diving into the water of a harbour to manually cut a rope away from an engine prop with a pocket knife, to keep a couple hundred people from being late ... I think that's pretty damn cool personally

Better than reading yet another story about murder, rape, Mayans, or another school shooting in the States.

Been too long since we posted one, but I reckoned I'll buy this little guy a beer.

Quote:
Today's BLOKE of the day deserves an extra special mention:

From UC Compliments page:
"Hey UC something almost happened to me and the person who saved me deserves to be recognised for what he did even if he doesn’t want it shared. Last month I was walking home alone from the fox and two older men crossed the road and began talking to me. I was a bit drunk and they seemed nice enough but it started getting weird and they kept trying to put their hands around me. I don’t want to go into detail but I was in real trouble and they wouldn’t let me go. I started shouting but no one was around. Then out of nowhere this small guy who was running came up and pretended to know me and ask what was going on. The two bigger men told him to fuck off or else but he didn’t, then when one guy turned around to shove him I don’t know what happened but the big guy was on the ground with the runner twisting his arm and a foot on the guys throat. He told the other guy to let me go and yelled at me to run so I did. I got back to my parents and called the cops but when they arrived theyd all gone. I found your fb and sent you a message but everyone deserves to know you are my hero and I will never forget what you did for me. Thank god for you HDM."

So today's BLOKE of the day/year is Hugh Devereux-Mack
https://www.facebook.com/hugh.devereuxmack

For showing remarkable bravery and courage in the aid of a stranger, you Sir, are truly a top bloke. He also works for all of you guys at the UCSA.

Share this - so everyone can see what he has done!

If you see him round uni; shake his hand and give him a hug *but not if he's studying.

No, because they referred to the attackers as older men. I took that to mean an older men than the writer. Of course that's not the only possible meaning, but it's the first that struck me.

Not sure I'd put that in this thread.

Good on him for sticking to his principals and for cooperating with police, but frankly this is barely even newsworthy. (Which makes it about 100x more newsworthy than much of the crap on the TV news nowdays though!)

The only reason "This is barely even newsworthy" however is because it happens a lot .... which in itself is shit .. so good on him giving them the finger.

As the aircraft pitched down, the co-pilot was lifted to the cabin roof and, while experiencing weightlessness, re-entered the flight deck through the open door.

The captain shouted repeatedly that he could not disengage the autopilot. With his feet on the flight deck roof, the co-pilot reached down and attempted to disengage the autopilot by pulling back on his side-stick; an action which appeared to have no effect.

Michael Bay would have been proud.

There was struggling going on - we could see him strangling the girl and she was trying to kick him and push him out.

Mr Berking tended to the woman - who was very upset and had obvious facial and neck bruising - while his friend Barrie Olsen, 36, followed the man.

He said the man ran towards the nearby Denny's restaurant.

"He tried to do a loop-de-loop around a van and ran back across the road towards the library where I was still on the phone. He ran straight towards me so I managed to kick his legs out from under him and he fell over and the rest of the boys piled on top of him.

"He was a big boy, but we have some big boys here, too."
