i wonder if the same weird dude that was walking around the stands at the turbos game last friday photographing the crowd from the side of his hip with some cheap digital camera will be there this thursday. don't know if he was trying to be inconspicous - if he was he was failing miserably seeing his flash went off with every shot.
there was also this one weird security dude who stood perfectly still staring at the crowd with his back to the field for the full game. everyone was saying something about him.

I dont think Phelps has been wearing the full suit. If he was, I don't think he could pull it off that quick (from what I hear about the suits).
It could just depend on the stroke. It might be more restrictive for strokes like the Butterfly. Edit. I see its not the full suit, arms and all, suit anyway. Last edited by blynk : 13th August 2008 at 18:34. |

Full suit after the race, he pulled it down to the waist. You can see it all bunched up. ....not that Im a Phelps stalker or anything. He normally wears the long pants. |

It definitely depends on which race hes in.
The butterfly probably stretches and contracts the back and chest too much to wear a full suit, where the freestyle is side to side. Last edited by blynk : 14th August 2008 at 09:19. |

I had heard he only wore the full body suit when he thought he had a true challenger.. hence he didn't wear it at all during any of the initial heats.

With the amount of media training these guys receive from the moment they're thought to be a medal hope, are you surprised that he can speak fluently?
Most sportsmen can speak well in interviews, very few can't. |

NZ'ers do not expect intelligence from our sportsmen, so it always comes as a bit of a surprise when we encounter one that isn't "missing link-ish". Slightly different in the US, where good PR is everything.

I'd argue NZ doesn't except intelligence from it's males, therefore they do not expect it from male athletes. Some of our female athletes are quite eloquent (although the twins sound like vapid hambeasts). The joys of living in a land such as ours. |

Oh yes, women are allowed occasionally to be seen as "intelligent". Of course the word is hidden within other endearments, such as "arrogant bitch" and the like. Is it any different anywhere else in the world though? |

@ChaosWulf
I really don't see why women are so offended by it to be honest. The smaller the mind of the male, the more he buys into the cliche 1950 mentality of being the owner of his wife... these are the ones that consider career orientated women or otherwise intelligent women to be cold hearted, arrogant and "in need of a good fucking" But, why do females care? If anything, female intelligence should act like an asshole detector, warding off those that can't stand an intelligent female presenting forthright opinions. Yet most females dull themselves down, especially in New Zealand to the level of the male they're with and quite happily play into this stereotype. Quite an irony. |

The average female is every bit as superficial as the average guy, no doubt of that. Was that the point?
Incidentally while I'm sure the odd chick sells out her smarts due to The Cock, most of them dumb themselves down for security or laziness, or possibly because even through the guy may not be a rocket scientist he may still be a decent guy. Scary concept, isn't it. Last edited by ChaosWulf : 14th August 2008 at 17:22. |
