Pretty sure I posted a trailer for this when I saw it, based on the cast alone.
But anyway, finally watched Moonrise Kingdom tonight. If you're a fan of Wes Anderson (Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, A Life Aquatic, et al) I can't recommend it highly enough. Thoroughly charming movie. Actually I'd recommend it unless you actively hate his movies. Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Bruce Willis, Ed Norton, Harvey Keitel, all supporting cast and they still don't steal the show from the main characters. Awesome. |

Looper slipped passed me. It looks like it could be ok if they do the whole time travel paradox thing right.

got sick of waiting on ab's detailed starwars report so I grabbed it and watched despecialised 2.0
twas good. quite of few of the scenes were grainy etc (the ones that were normally full of CG chipmonks) but honestly was totally watchable and I would probably have only really noticed cause I was watching for it. 2 thumbs up here. |

Saw Looper last night, thought it was very good, except for the unnecessary telekinesis bits and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's distracting nosejob. Thoughtful, well-acted and directed, entertaining.

Slightly disturbing but one of the best I've seen all year. Elizabeth Olsen (yes sister of the hot/ano twins) is pretty amazing in it. Recommended for a late night wtf watch. |

I didn't hate it; thought there were the bones of a potentially interesting story ruined by a) open-ended unresolved Lost Lindelof bullshit, b) some moments of just breathtakingly shit writing and c) the temptation to tie to the Alien mythos with the Space Jockey and ship and throatfucking and chestbursting. If all that Alien shit had been stripped out I think the movie would have been improved. |

Looper was really good. Dragged a little bit in the middle I felt but overall, awesome. Went in expecting an action movie, came out surprised (and a bit relieved, I'm not that crazy about action movies).
Lot of respect for JGL for emulating a lot of Bruce Willis' mannerisms so well and still seeming natural. |

1. the zombie guy coming back and being big and strong an angry. worst action ever and it made no sense 2. the jockey coming back at the end. how did he know where she was, that she was still alive etc. Would have made much more sense to have Charlize get attacked by the face hugger. especially after she alluded to wanting her father to fk off so she could be the queen. 3. also with teh jockey coming back at the end, in alien 1 isn't he sitting in the ships seat still, not dead on the floor with his chest open? and stuff I just couldn't get to make sense why did the aliens leave a star map each time they visted earth leading to their secret death goo storage planet they use to wipe out planets they no longer like agree with AB, hidden in there were the under pinnings of a great story. but my gawd a planet of death goo that turns oragnisms into death machines and the best they could come up with was a couple of worms, a big angry guy and a giant squid Last edited by Baxton : 1st October 2012 at 07:49. |

Saw Looper based on recommendations... I can only conclude based on others' positive reviews that it's just not my type of movie. I didn't fall asleep, but I sure was glad that the final scene was really the end. Don't worry if you don't follow the plot - it ends abruptly with the storyline mostly irrelevant.

but the thing is, I dont see how generating an egg laying queen could be part of the the standard life cycle of the planet cleansing aliens. If they could leave eggs, the planet would be fked for ever more.
added to this there were no eggs in the warehouse or ships when the humans searched, even though the engineers chests had been burst. the gestation of the alien in a female womb could explain the egg/repoduction thing. but if it was not even the same planet how could it. This all happened somewhere else? on another ship? The same/similar events on a different planet? It makes no sense. IT MAKES NO SENSE |

Watched Prometheus again last night and the shit writing stood out as even more breathtakingly shit than the first time around. Two examples:
1. Biologist guy with glasses (goog: "Milburn") is on the team because he's a biologist, but he runs away and flees back to the ship the first time the team actually discover some alien biology (decapitated Pilot). But even though he's terrified of all this alien stuff he's carefree enough that when he encounters an actual shit-scary-looking lifeform he talks to it like it's a fucking kitten and tries to pat it - even though it looks like a snake and therefore would be setting off every fucking evolutionary snake-fear alarm from the front of his brain to the back. 2. Geologist guy with the red hair (Fifield) is the guy in charge of the antigrav 3d-mapping bots. He's in constant wifi contact both with the bots and with the ship because he's the guy making the map of the facility. But he gets lost and turned around and doesn't know where he is. THE FUCK. He's the only guy in the whole team who COULDN'T GET LOST. The whole Xmas thing was just pointlessly heavy-handed. And "Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing" yeah fuck off we got it. |

Prometheus, I didn't hate it. But yes some seriously 'this does not make logical sense' moments.
So I'll just jump in this cool as surgery bubble, get the gribbly cut out of my stomach, GET STAPLED BACK TOGETHER, and proceed to *immediately* run around, dodge aliens, rolling spaceships... etc. Hey writer man, this is THE FUTURE, why don't you write it so the machine does some magical laser shit to 'sew' the wound up, that kinda makes 'i've just had major surgery and am now running around' a tad more palatable Quote:

iirc the plot for alien was the nostromo picked up a distress signal?
and they found the crashed ship with a bunch of eggs on it, and then later on in aliens ripley finds a queen so theres no way the ship that sti girl is on is the one that crashed onto the 'alien' planet cause the queen was back on the prometheus planet, if its the same queen it got there on another ship was the original movie adapted from a book? or was the screenplay the original? cause i always thought the predators had a big role in the xeno's getting bred around the galaxy (ie was the crashed ship a predator ship), or was that just written in later on for the alien vs predator universe |
