WOMGs today?

A Dirty HO

Basically a big to Mr & Mrs TnT - our calendar turned up today.

Service was brilliant the whole way through.
Was delivered to the wife's work and people there oooh'd and ahhh'd over it. A couple of people took a flyer/brochure that was included in the delivery.

So, one satisfied customer here... telling anyone/everyone to at least check out the website

Op Shopping

I love rummaging through racks and racks of clothes. over 80% is shit but there's some good bargains to be had. Especially when the people who sort and price the stuff don't know designer labels and price something out at $5.99

Some of the things I got today had the original shop tags on them.

Must be my Dutchness shining through but I love not spending a fortune on clothes

And did you in fact agree with the decision they arrived at? Obviously the judgement was unanimous, but did you agree with that judgement or did you go along with it for the sake of getting it over and done with?

I agreed and pushed for the result. Thankfully there were some eloquent members that agreed. I lost sleep thinking this person could get away with what seemed like an obvious case. Group dynamics play a scary part in jury trials. Unchallenged, a number seemed content to take the path of least resistance i.e. shut up & subjugate their reasoning to the loudest mouth. Everyone needs to be engaged.

Jury duty can suck and can be fine. Suck as in being up for selection in a really horrendous rape/murder case. Fine as in sitting on a jury for a very straight forward and inoffensive tinny house case with a really onto-it dude.

It was interesting. One guy was the devil's advocate the whole time, challenging everything and making sure nobody was being an arse or a sheep. We very quickly came to a unanimous conclusion, but I could see that the dumber members of the jury thought the bright dude was going to hold us up by disagreeing.

i think they write that on all the letters.. although, does yours start on 26 Jan? could be the same 'intake'. I hope I don't get challenged!
Although it's a district court, so apparently no murders

I thiiiink that sounds about right actually.. cant remember the date, but it was mid-late jan.

And yea, I was hoping for high court or something, but no

They said to be available for an entire week, and I might be chosen for a case that's expected to take up to three weeks. No idea if thats just a generic letter template though.

I was on a case a few years ago which was an assault case, a single drunken punch and the guys got hauled through court. In the end we ended up with an evenly split jury (might have been 5-7 either way) and they had to get a retrial.

Didn't help that the prosecutor was a total newbie. She was incoherent, unconvincing and I'm sure she missed so much stuff.

It was still an interesting experience and I don't regret doing it.

just asked a guy at work that did jury duty last month whether his letter said 'three weeks case' and it didn't. so I guess we're on the same roll.

he said that about 100 people get called. they all sit in the same room. and then a 'ballot' comes through where about 45 people get picked. those 45 people go into a court room and can be challenged without a reason. so that's two sets of hurdles to get past before even we can get to be on the jury :/
but apparently you get paid for every day you show up (only about 34 dollars + transport).

Your employer will only pay you if they want to, since they're not legally obliged to while you're on jury duty.

I just checked with our accountant, she says that my employer will continue to pay my salary, but i have to reimburse the employer with whatever i get from the courts.
So my income stays the same, but my employer only pays the difference.

Not sure how standard that is.
