I think there's a clue to the origins of life in the queue at the local cafe...

You see, the space in the shop is organised like an L with the counter at the corner, and the short side of the L opening to the street. The long part of the L is fairly narrow, about the minimum width two people could comfortably pass. At the top of the L is ice cream, the long end facing out is food. Coffee is picked up on the end of the short side of the L.

So to get to the ice cream and food you have to pass the counter. Most days the queue is just disorganised. Some people go straight to the counter, others want to pass and look at food or ice cream, and people try to queue in random directions, wait in random places. And it's super busy.

But on a rare occasion somehow the volume and organisation of people is just right that an organised rotating queue spontaneously forms. The queue starts behind the person being served, then moves up to the ice cream and then back down past the food to the counter. It's magical.

I've pretty convinced that Chris Farley never actually died. He went into hiding and somehow got elected as the mayor of Toronto.

Outrage at campaign to reclaim swastika
Quote:
The campaign has drawn emotional reactions from the Jewish community.

"I believe that a symbol that was once something else, but which the Nazi took hostage, cannot just be washed clean," President of the Jewish Congregation of Copenhagen, Finn Schwarz, told Metroxpress.

Mr Schwarz added that Madson's attempt to reimagine the symbol was just "cheap".

But Madson said that while he understands the outrage from the Jewish community, he "refuses to let evil keep this symbol".
I guess it could work if it became a thing.

I dunno, I reckon to get a swastika tattoo you'd have to be either a racist, or a fucking moron, or both.

whenever i hear of people doing that i just think- why? what possible reason do they have for feeling the need to "take it back?" like there arent enough symbols in the world or something?

nothing, afaik (and hope O_o). it's like building renovations, you don't need a lisence so long as you're doing them yourself. Done half my house so far, no fires! woo.

Um - you can do the work yourself, but before livening it, it needs to be checked by a registered electrical inspector and issued with a certificate of compliance?

Only if he's a homeowner/occupier.

If not, then the work would need to be carried out by a registered electrician:

An Electrical Inspector would only need to inspect prescribed electrical work (work carried out by a registered sparky) if it is work that would be defined as high risk (e.g. if the wiring was happening in a hazardous area).

Documentation required to be completed depends upon the level of risk (low, general, high).

I believe that such a job might be general prescribed electrical work, because it's not maintenance/replacement (if they are new powerpoints).

General risk work, a sparky would need to complete:
  • a Certificate of Compliance to certify the prescribed electrical work carried out, and
  • an Electrical Safety Certificate (by the worker making the connection to the supply (livening).

(The CoC & ESC are often combined into one document).

Thats the way ...

Honestly my house had such fucking terrible wiring when we got it ... its safer now its been redone "and checked". Crazy fucker had light fittings that then had cables coming out from them ... to somewhere else ...

At one point he had daisy chained about 3 sockets to get to one point. Almost like all he knew was light fixtures or only had 3 light fixtures and a certain length of cable for each ... and just repeated it three times ...

Heaps safer now I've redone the lot.

Governments are instituted by the voters.

Climate change is an issue that primarily affects future generations.

Future generations don't vote.

I'm being bitter by suggesting that people don't vote in their interest, so future generations might just vote in the same self-interested dummies.
