So Julian Assange is 'un-American'? Just another reason Sarah Palin is better suited to porn, than running the most powerful armed force on the planet.

I can't think of this as anything but good news.
WikiLeaks defectors plan rival site Putin's support is quite interesting. Seems like a good opportunity to demonstrate any cyberwarfare capabilities they might have, under the guise of faceless "hackers" supporting Wikileaks.

"Vladimir Putin has led a growing band of international leaders voicing support for Assange, describing his detention in Britain as undemocratic."
That's priceless. Meanwhile, if you say anything Putin takes a dislike to, you end up like this: |

"enemy combatant"? How?
I don't know why they are even trying to put him through their legal system. It's not like it is going to set any precedents. The more they persecute Assange, the bigger the story becomes. And the bigger the story becomes, the bigger Assange's support becomes. And the more hackers are inspired to be like Assange. |
11th December 2010, 16:12 | #99 |
|
How? Just by saying it. "Enemy combatant" in American means "person we can do with what we want without regards for the law."
You're right though. Assange wins by way of the Streisand Effect.

IMO it's a peculiar situation where it can be illegal for a person to steal and/or release certain information but not illegal for someone else to publish this same information.

Will The New York Times Set Up Its Own WikiLeaks Portal?
Seems like Assange's plan is coming to fruition.

This week's ComCom announcement about even lower termination rates will probably not lower the prices of voice calls or text for us but it will probably help telcos in the USA.

Companies set prices to be equal to the amount consumers are willing to pay played off against what it is the company is try to achieve i.e. they try to place prices near the efficient frontier that applies to their individual situations. If a business find itself in a monopolistic or oligopolistic situation where market failure allows prices to be set to generate unusually delicious profits then all the better. The solution to this type of situation is regulation. Since there is no regulation prices are high and everyone will continue paying through the nose not because they want to but because they can. |

I suppose a more accurate question is why now, after Wikileaks had gone to lengths to release the data slowly.
But this makes it clear: http://www.schneier.com/blog/archive...cted_us_d.html
