From my many SMP and SP experiments with trapping, I have settled on a hybrid water channel drop trap of extreme simplicity, extensibility and efficiency. No signs required - just a decent number of fences for the kill zone. I can post some diagrams for other trap experts to comment on, perhaps?

p.s. I like simple designs, I say the best thing we can do is figure out where the trap will be, and if were gonna do it to bedrock, we all dig there since its a lot of dirt to move, unless we cheat with tnt spawn hehe

Updated the renderer itself but it still doesn't seem to have picked up the spawn properly.

Looks a bit nicer though and you can now search by signs!

With at least a 25 drop at both edges. Width can be extended by adding another tray to either side, doubling output. Length can be extended in the obvious way. Drop kill zone consists of water over fences, leading to lava grinders to clear up stragglers. Gap between layers is 2 to avoid endermen. Output can become ridiculous.

I used a design twice that width with water leading inwards to two central drop channels for my keep trap.

So how are we gonna do this when we enter? Will we wait for Seldom to put the base around the ground so we know where the centre of our town will be or what?

Also are we still staying within the boundaries of our main city area since 1.9 will need new chunks again?

With about 20 layers and 20 channels, it was producing more than I could pick up and sort into chests. Somewhat excessive, and probably bad for a SMP server?

ubu and I jumped into single player games....

I used a seed of "Rincey" and had to run for about 1/2 a day to find trees
Got a hidey hole built just in time - used wood for charcoal, and waited out my first night....

ubu wasn't so lucky - he ran smack straight into an enderman - so we decided to see what it would do: watched it out of the corner of his eye for a bit (saw it stacking blocks around)... then we put our crosshair on it... it got interested in us, and then when our crosshair slipped off him, *pow* it was on ubu, and fucked him up in about 3 seconds .... wheeee!

Endermen do hit hard if I recall correctly, and often when you take a swing they've teleported behind you. But they are really weak, same as a zombie so you can easily kill them if you haven't looked at them yet. Or you can just go up to them and pour a bucket of water down on them.

I loaded up 1.8 this morning before work and had a play in Creative mode and found the most impressive cave system to date! It had massive, huge rooms full of lava and water (and diamond!) and little ravines trailing off.. it was amazing.

best make a open/close pit into lava at the bottom, for when not in use.

Please add Holmium to the white list.

I also have read on the forums that the endermen are screwing up mob traps. Essentially the movement of blocks is killing the water flows and causing all sorts of problems. Apparently one dude said 2 minutes of endermen causing havoc took him MUCH longer repair, so something to be aware of.

as long as they dont spawn inside it should be fine, just have a big ass moat around the trap will stop em

Same thing happened to me using 1.8 pre-release (Seed: 1682061598324584670) except it took me about 30 min to find a tree. Nothing but a large ocean with a few naked islands here and there. When I finally found the one single tree I got four blocks of wood and one sapling. Tough map.

First map I made with my kids names spawned me on a barren island in the middle of nothing but water. FU.

Second with a + instead of an "and" between their names was better, but it spawned me ON an 8-high tree. Welp, at least I have wood.
