No power again. Given how often this is happening I think I need more than mobile gaming and a way to make coffee available. I need to get some kind of battery system going. Maybe just a charger for devices, but perhaps UPS of some sort for net and PC... Fuck it, maybe I'll just buy a small generator.

...seems like 20 years since the entire Auckland CBD was without power for weeks due to a borked cable. Then there was that substation blowout a couple of years back - don't you guys learn from these things?

Sick three times in three weeks. The second two times have been fairly mild, the stomach virus was a bitch though.
Mainly just annoyed it's messing up my gym routine.

Salesmen/Suppliers that are presumptuous with their approach when they make their first contact email pitch.
Ie: "Could you please advise me a good time to catch-up with me over a coffee. I will be available in the city tomorrow after 1.30pm". Verbatim from a never-heard-of vendor email this morning... |

My pretty much instant response in that kinda situation: Congratulations, your pushy attitude has ensured I'll never meet with you for anything and it's highly unlikely I'd ever want to deal with your company.

For a first contact pitch, who the hell is emailing anyway?
And giving you a definitive time to help fill their calendar up doesn't help them either. If you don't answer, that 1:30 timeslot will stay as a placeholder and they'll never be able to fill it, in case you say yes at the last minute.

Sure stranger, i'm more than happy to share private issues with you because you sound like a good christian.. |

People driving around with space saver tyres irk me.
Other people with 'baby on board' stickers that drive like fucking maniacs also irk me.

You probably should've done it the same day if possible. If you weren't driving up and down the motorway long term then you're probably fine and don't need to get butthurt. Apology accepted though.

I'd rather a space saver than the option my current car has - a can of tyre goo.
Had a puncture on the motorway a few months ago - the goo got me ~5km to the nearest tyre place, but it ruined the tyre so had to replace it, even though the puncture itself may have been repairable. |

The P-car has what I had imagined to be an abomination - a space saver circa mid 1970's - complete with 12v compressor to make it bigger:
But it does seem to inflate to a decent size, and magically... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmG8q9lKEgs |

My trick to being healthy / avoiding colds and flu. Also general alertness and energy has been supremely improved by:
- No alcohol - Minimal sugar - Diverse gut flora (home brew kombucha + kim chi) - Daily green tea + ascorbic acid - Daily medicinal mushrooms (Reishi, He Shou Wu, Chaga, Cordyceps, Lions Mane) - Intermittent fasting I know that all sounds like some bare-foot hippy bullshit, I too am a huge skeptic when it comes to this sort of thing. Nothing for me has had such a positive and noticeable short term, and medium term benefit as regular green tea and super mushrooms. |

- Wine every night, half a bottle (red in winter, white in summer). - Smoke, regularly. - Plenty of home baked goods - Metric shit-ton of veges (okay so this isn't opposite) - 2 big cups of strong black coffee per day - Walk every-fucking-where (having access to a car has made me soft in this regard - but fuck walking to town from Karori). - Have to eat 3 times a day or I get super fucking grumpy (no way I could fast and actually do anything). - Avoid interacting with people - most weeks I'll only be in close proximity (within a metre) to maybe 1 or 2 people for a limited period of time (so no more than 5 - 10 minutes). This excludes my partner - but she also doesn't seem to get ill much. This one seems to be the real key. This has allowed me to maintain my svelte 68kg figure - but I'll also probably have a massive heart attack, stroke, cancer or aneurysm in the next 10-15 years. Saving up all my "being sick" for one massive, life ending, splurge :-)

I used to get a number of colds a year. Now haven't had a cold in over 2 years.
Things I've changed. Vitamin D supplements (I take these to help with a food sensitivity, turns out, helps the immune system too). Blis Throatguard lozenges, I take every now and then. Def not every day. Also good to take prior to hopping on an international flight Push lift buttons with my knuckles vs finger. I work in a uni, so many filthy people touch those buttons. *edit* if possible, push doors or door "open" buttons with the back of the hand. Last edited by FireStorm : 29th June 2018 at 12:20. |

Oh yeah I totally get that - what work I am getting at the moment I do at home so in isolation of the wider public. With access to a car (which has made me a bit lazy) I'm not even needing to use public transport.
I was a bit like that when I was tutoring though - 5 tutorials meant 100+ different people who I'd end up stuck in a room with for an hour at a time. I usually took the earliest morning tutorials I could - preferably at 9am straight after the cleaners had been through. Only picked up one solid flu during that time, but I was also super run-down due to stress at the time which no doubt contributed.

What gets me is I'm the healthiest I've been.
Regularly workout. Lots of sleep. Diet is mostly fruit, veges, protein, minimal carbs. No drugs other than caffeine and minimal alcohol. Ah well, I'm mostly better now.
