hmmmmmmmmmm, i didn't think jeremy mocked him at all?(he hinted a few mocks towards cameron by asking her to pronounce car parts/car models) they talked about cars/bikes/jets and then showed the lap.. i was surprised by cameron's lap, but once i heard hers i knew tom's was going to be better and what a classy cunt, rocking two wheels on the last corner. that dude's on another level.

edit: added spoiler, cos that shit was too cool

The only bit of Sherlock I had trouble with was his relationship with the police, a consulting detective, didn't transfer believably into the modern setting. Besides that I thought they did a great job of refreshing the SH story.

I'm glad they chose a longer format for it, reminds me of how good Wire in the Blood was and how awful it would have been at 45min.

It was probably just that length for the pilot. I had a bit of trouble with suspension of disbelief initially, but once the story got going it was okay.

It's funny. I'm reading A Study In Scarlet, the novel this 'A Study In Pink' episode is based on. It was all a bit weird seeing it in a modern setting.

I was hoping for something a bit longer. I should have known though, what with it being British and all...

Unlike, say, a crime writer that follows the police around and solves their crimes for them? Or an incredibly perceptive man who follows police around, pretending to be a psychic and solves their crimes for them?

Imagine going to the police and enquiring about a job as a 'consultant'. Tell them you're really skilled at solving mysteries because you almost always figure out who's guilty before the end of the episode. Imagine if they told you that they don't hire 'consultants' and that detective work is just done by police detectives.
I reckon you would feel 'lied to' by the various TV programs - how dare they fail to be 100% realistic! Next thing you know someone will reveal that DNA testing can't be done within hours, let alone minutes.

Funnily enough I do actually enjoy the various shows alluded to in the last few posts. Reality is a poor substitute for TV.

But only one character alluded to has the friendship with the Mayor!

Still, it's worth trying. I do like poker, I guess I'll have to see if I can get into a regular poker game with the Mayor. Maybe I'd better get into golf too and play golf with the Mayor as well just for good measure. My only concern is that I may need to be a wealthy & famous author, and unfortunately that is something that I am not.

Geez, things just seem to go easier on TV.

Was a good episode, I can't believe everyone's taking it for granted that coincidentally the biggest two stars to ever appear on the show just HAPPEN to have the two best lap times though! Jeez, what kind of agents would they have if they hadn't :P

Woah, kinda guessing you haven't got very far into the book yet. It's been a while since I've read it but the only parallels between Pink and Scarlet is the scratching of 'Rache' (Pink actually reverses the reason for it) and is when Sherlock and Watson meet each other.

I enjoyed Sherlock a lot more than I thought I would, having read all the books I'm a bit fussy...

Guessing incorrectly. I'm well in, and I'm well aware of that fact, but the entire first chunk of the episode, until the pink crime scene, is pretty faithful to the start of the book. That's plenty of material through which to find the modern context weird.

He wasn't mocking her, he was saying that when an attractive woman can talk about cars it makes her even hotter (if you are a petrol head at least), after she mentioned a few car parts Clarkson said that he had just had a 'crisis'*.

* 'crisis' = orgasm as readers of Lady Chatterley's Lover would know.
