Talking

Dude, apparently even telling a child that his/her behaviour is "naughty" is abuse, according to the Wonderful World of Biff (what an ironic handle).

I guess if we just totally ignore bad behaviour and reward good behaviour instead - then lo, we can have either a perfectly behaved and totally oversensitive child that will be too afraid to go to school because all the other kids have been trained wrong as a joke, or a budding sociopath.
Awesome!

Biff is one of those "whatever you do in life, you're a winner" parents.

Funnily enough, they're also the kinds of thoughts that breed losers.

Biff's a jackass, but there's nothing wrong or abnormal about unconditional love.

Yeah it worked great for our family too.

Smacking is really only for parent's who lack better skills and/or are just lazy.

Biff, go come up with some more threads about Steorn engines. They don't make us want to smash our heads against the wall quite as much as your parenting tips.

I think I've only been sick once, but it has been a continual flow of different symptoms. Could have been 3 or 4 separate illnesses. :/

Holy Christ Batman what the fuck are you on about?

Of course it's telling them they have been naughty - BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN.

You are the kind of parent that doesn't want winners in an athletics race because it's dissapointing for the losers.
That bread ad that has the kids being all PC - "No, I'm a cow PERSON" - you organised that party didn't you?

Fucken retard. Tell me where you live so I can avoid it like the plague.

You've got to remember that the word "naughty" can have zero meaning to a child. If your kid hits another person you don't say "you've been naughty", you say something like "we don't hit people because it hurts" or something - and then you send them to time-out or whatever you want to call it (obviously the kid gets a warning first). My idiot sis in law will constantly say to her kid "oh you're so naughty, naughty" but she'll say it while tickling him as a game. Such a moron. That kid has no chance.

I always suss out whether my kid should've hit them or not first.
If they should've, I like to debrief them as to technique employed etc.

THANK YOU. Exactly.

What I am getting at is if you constantly tell a kid they are naughty then what is it the are conditioned to think about themselves? That they are naughty. Same thing if you tell them they are 'stupid' all day long. They need to be taught what they did was naughty and that is not what we do. I have friends with a 5yr old who will run around destroying shit yelling "I'm naughty!! I'm naughty!! bwaaaa!!! ha!!!!! crash boom bang..." His parents are all "go to your naughty corner right now!". Anyway, the few out there like chiquelet 'get it' so at least that is something. It's no wonder the rest are being quiet when you have people in here glorifying being thugs to their kids etc.

Yeah Biff I get exactly where you're coming from. I used to watch Supernanny when I was younger and thought her approach was great. At the time I didn't even click that she never used smacking for discipline. She had all these great non-violent techniques that made me think "great, I'll keep these in mind if I have a kid". And I have. She's not quite 2 so there isn't a massive bag of tricks to pull from for discipline, but I have used the "naughty mat" for bad behaviour like biting or hitting. And I've only had to use it a handful of times. Generally all I need to do is get down to her level, put on the gruff assertive voice and warn her and that's the end of it. You don't need to smack/hit/tap a kid to "snap them out of it".

I actually hate that crap with a passion. Kids in the US can't even play "tag" anymore on the playground for fear some of the kids might feel like a loser.

No wait, it gets dumber. The client site already has Google Analytics integrated and configured. I know, because I did it. And I charged the client for it.

I swear some companies just don't care what they spend money on. They might as well just have a bonfire in the carpark and throw money on it.
