About the Nathan Haines gig... it's a bit embarrassing but we've been replaced. We're told there was a bit of a communication breakdown... we were booked. Then there were a bunch of screaming matches amongst booking agents and shit... caused a stink and we got shunned...

Still.. it should be a lovely gig nonetheless... they're all great musicians.

Well, look. If I had time over summer to write a ditty for this compilation, I would have. But, I've been working on other peoples material instead.

So, I'll submit The War Within's album in lieu of it. Thats what I've been producing, for at least part of summer.

Enjoy!

I like it! Great sense of melody, beautifully produced too.

I've spent all year since January composing, reworking, and gearing up for the recording of a project that will take place in May. The results will be posted here.

Yep it's our great pop hit :-) Well we have paid a lot of money recording the songs, but I think we're all very happy with that. In this case we did get what we paid for!

I think one of the things that makes that song is the two bass lines going on at the same time - works brilliantly when you've got head phones on - very subtle but extreemly effective.

The EP will likley be released in the next couple of months and then we're back into the studio to record some more tracks and flesh it all out into an album (fingers crossed).

finally

Ok here it is...

track 1
track 2
track 3
track 4
track 5

Here are 5 tracks from an album im working on at the moment. I've been conceptualizing it since mid last year. The idea behind it is a little hard to explain. But essentially the whole album is 1 song... a medely of several loosely related pieces of music... currently there are 21 tracks.. i am aiming for 36 tracks. So you play it on shuffle, and your cd player gives you a different song everytime (with 36 tracks thats 666 possible permutations). Stick it on shuffle and repeat and you get an endless song, that is constantly composing itself differently.

Personell is..
Ron Samsom on drums
Aaron Coddel on bass
Lewis McCullum on sax
me on piano

Of course these 5 tracks dont do the whole album justice... but you kinda get the idea, as they can be in any order and link to eachother.

We're planning a release concert sometime soon.. ill keep ya'll posted. The album will be under my name Nicholas Rogan and titled Simon Says.

In the meantime enjoy.

I can confirm the release date of "when it's done".

More material needs to be written and recorded.. which isnt an issue..now that i've actually found a way to make the idea work on cd I am quite inspired about whatelse to add to the mix.

I'll prolly have it in at Bfm / george fm jazz shows before the end of NZ Music Month.

I've just now noticed an error. It was supposed to read 'I'm not so sure about the piano though'. Either it's out of tune or the player is drunk.

If you're talking about it sounding muddy, that is being rectified =)

I'm constantly doing new mixdowns and such..
so far i've noticed the bass is too present, the piano is a bit "woody" plus has no sparkle and the drums lack presence. Did a new mix last night..

thanks for the offer.. I think it'll be more beneficial for me to work it out for myself. It's my first time mixing / mastering 4 tracks in cubase... Trial and error, thats how I learn best.

that's hella nice stuff there jonas. i think the mix was a touch off but quite nice really, as you say a little bassy in parts. but the rides sound so rotten in 128kbps. that's all i really disliked. charming!

Simon Says 1 - 5.mp3 are updated with another 5 new random selections from the new mix. I've now managed to get up to a total of 28 tracks (not far from the goal)... and i'm getting the hang of this linking business.

The linking part is a huge lesson in itself. I've been listening to Miles Davis, Debussy, Bill Evans, Pat Methany, Keith Jarrett to study their use of pauses. Combine that with a fairly good knowledge of leading notes and chords and holy shit it's starting to sound like 1 song.

Post

A little backgrounding for the above track.

'American Remake' was recorded by myself and Tarzan007 about the same time as Iraq Asshat, our latest single which floppde (largely due to the fact that he allowed me to sing) so we've stuck to our winning combination of Slothking's lyrics and Tarzan's vox.

On the IMDB.com forum for Battle Royale, on which Slothking spends an unhealthy amount of time shouting at people, every second thread is some assinahat suggesting that an american remake would be truly awesome. Eventually, Slothking was sufficiently enraged to release a parody song expressing his disgust. It worked, for a while.

LYRICS:

Don't want another american remake thread
You sad bastards just killed the issue dead
I bet that Koushun Takami is seeing red
I'd rather have Ai Maeda give me head

CHORUS
Remake threads have now reached a quorum
On the IMDB.com forum
The next person to make a thread is gay
Remain calm and try not to panic
If all else fails, just make another fanfic
Or even a deep discussion

Well maybe I'm a stupid New Zealander
I'm not another Battle Royale Highlander
But if you make another remake thread, yeah
The day you die'll be marked on my calendar

CHORUS

Now, like Jagged eleven

This song's missing important parameters
Sadly lacking iambic pentameter
Now by saying this, I might sound amateur
But beer's wang has a hefty diameter

Few additional things for the sake of comprehension:

- The other half of threads on IMDB BR forum are people writing fan fiction / fanfics
- Half the posters seem to be from Scotland (hence 'highlander') I'm thus far the only Kiwi
- Jagged eleven is a pretentious whore who practically committed suicide when I gave his overly verbose fanfic a bad review
- Koushun Takami is the writer of the original Battle Royale, Ai Maeda is the hot actress who played Beat Takeshi's daughter in the sequel.
- On the forum I am known as Beer, short for Beerfulloffridge.
- Yes. I ripped off one of the NZG limericks in the bridge. Bite me.

Check out the song 'lady' (can be downloaded or streamed, as with the other 3). We recorded these live in the flat with a huge crowd of people and with our bellies filled with beer (kinda drunk... A lot drunk ). We are recording again in 2 weeks so there will be a better version soon.

Enjoy!

The lyrics:
When I wake up
I hear your humming through the house
and I can harldy keep myself
from jumping outta bed
Throw on some clothes
and race to be by your side
I want to see your pretty face
so it can take me to a better place

Theres no need to see if you're turned on,
because I can see you already are

The way your body
slots to mine
it's as if you were
specifically designed
We spend so much
Time together
I feel as if we never part
but when we do
I always think of you

The times we've shared, the things we've seen
some good, some bad, some in-between
If you were only like other girls
and not some piece of machinery

You're my computer
And you're my shining light
You're my computer
I wish I could hold you tight
You're my computer
Staying up all night
You're my computer
Give me a reason to live my life

Some think i'm wierd
Or that i'm socially inept
But I would rather
spend time with something I can relate
I help you, through tough times
like you do me
I saved you from the worm 'MS blast'
And you saved my essay's with copy and paste

I only wish you were a real girl
So I could spend more time in the real world

You're my computer
You make me feel alright
You're my computer
I wish I could hold you tight
You're my computer
Staying up all night
You're my computer
Yeah, you make me feel alright

I know, some day
You'll be outdated
And it will break my heart to see
you pulled to bits to be upgraded
But it will be
For the better
Live fast, die young, this high paced world
But there will always be you and me

You're my computer
You make me feel alright
You're my computer
I wish I could hold you tight
You're my computer
Staying up all night
You're my computer
Yeah, Give me a reason to live my life

I've got a song reaching fruition in the next couple of weeks.

Should I wait for the Triple Deuce thread, or just put it here?

because you've already written it, post it here. It'll be great to hear what you've been working on.

I have a feeling the third nzgames outting will be more like the first one, with people composing stuff especially for the nzg soundtrack.... well, that's what I hope for anyway =)

Given the rampant success of this thread, I'm rather surprised you'd bother with a third 'outting'.

You need to get over your differences, and accept that you were both very drunk and that gerbils, while very funny creatures, are not meant for the bedroom.

cmon now.. I though it was clear by now that NZgames soundtracks are not about musical perfection. Songs written for the first soundtrack had a tendency to be amateurish, quirky, and topical... and that's a great thing.

I'm not normally a singer. But it's a good excuse for me to bust out some lyrics over whatever screwed up thing i can create.

I think what might help is some software tools for making music. Like some simple downloadable multi track audio programs so people can make their own backing tracks. Anyone have any suggestions ?
