Convenient that there is a rumour of a lockdown due to the new strain a day after National talk about that front line should be vaccinated immediately. Seems more likely to try and rile up fear that Labour aren't doing enough. |

I was thinking the other day if this new strain got into the community there would be no doubt of an instant lockdown. The scale of the lockdown would be the question in terms of it being regional or national.

I think there's something to be said about the fact that despite the steady flow of infected arrivals we haven't had another outbreak in the country.

...yet a person I know just got out of MIQ and said that whilst you had to stay in your rooms most of the time, gloves where literally off if you used the smoking area - and cigs and lighters were frequently passed around between detainees of varying tenure.

I suppose the priority is keeping the country safe, rather than those entering the country. Or maybe it's one of those things where the additional policing required would only elevate worker's exposure to potentially infected arrivals.
Who knows really, what we do know is we're enjoying a long stretch without community transmission.

Conspiracy Theory. There was no community case. It was a fright the government wanted to give the country to make sure we are not complacent.
1 - She had 2 negative tests while in iso. 2 - Her positive test came 2 weeks later, and within a few days, she has now been classified as recovered 3 - No close contacts contracted it - including her husband. 3b - and it was the more contagious SA strand 4 - the Locations visited were basically outside of Auckland. So a smaller "impact", but close enough to scare |

Could be a case of arse-covering too. If it came out there was a potential community case and the government hadn't put on its dog-and-pony show, they might get reamed if that case was "exposed".

On the plus side, Moderna and Pfizer have the largest ever human test sample of any mRNA vaccine ever developed. Is developing a vaccine more or less complicated than developing Cyberpunk 2077? I'm sure by the time I am required to get the jab they will hotfix all the bugs.

Annoying though I would think that the cost of NOT having mini lock-downs and/or NOT bringing thousands of people a week back in would be a lot more. I read this week that the UK has had the biggest economic decline in 300 years, fuck that.

Hmm - Ok, after Jacinda's comments about how we felt after hearing the news on Sunday, I had to rewind and check out what the signing person did.
Daughter confirms she indicated "We felt let down". I really wanted to see what the sign for "gutted" was... |

Maybe the next hotel quarantine will provide a different outcome.
Or just follow what works (i.e Darwin using cabins / motel, no connected air flow, open air). It's a good thing the people in charge #followthescience

Now it's back down to localized soreness - feels almost bruised. Blood clot might wander along anything up to 20 weeks in they reckon.

That's a particular framing.
I'm a biological organism with vulnerabilities that can be protected against. I'll weigh the risks, costs, benefits and decide what steps I take with the options available, with consideration for the larger community. That's another framing. Neither are more or less true. Although one might be more effective than the other, depending on what outcomes one is looking for.

What's happening in India right now looks very much like what some were predicting would happen everywhere at the start of the pandemic. Very grim.
