The team is what it sounds like.

An all Māori whakapapa Rugby Union team

They've been around for a hell of a long time, though they used to be called "New Zealand Natives" or something like that.

No, I mean... when did the team "NZ Maori" get marketinged to "the Maori All Blacks"?

Not every player in the team is an All Black. Not every Maori player in the All Blacks plays in the team. It makes no sense unless you're just trying to sell merch.

The team was renamed the Māori All Blacks in 2012, having previously been called the New Zealand Māori and New Zealand Maoris. Many members have gone on to play for New Zealand.

Luckily thats because they were named in a time when the teams were given unique names. Rather than just add ethnicity or gender to the beginning.


Don't know why they didn't call the Maori team Ōpango which is All Blacks in Maori (look I had to go to a Maori dictionary for that, so i assume that is correct)
